Tianning Temple Changzhou Tianning Temple is a nationally protected temple and a cultural relic protection unit in Jiangsu Province. It is known as the first jungle in the southeast. Changzhou Tianning Temple stands outside the east gate of Changzhou, overlooking the world-famous Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal in front, and backed by Hongmei Park, the largest park in Changzhou. It is the largest and best-preserved thousand-year-old ancient temple in Changzhou. With its five major features: temple, Buddha, bells, drums and tripods, it is known as the first jungle in the southeast.
Changzhou Tianning Temple is located at No. 728, Jiefang Road, South of Hongmei Park, Changzhou City. It was founded during the Yonghui period of Tang Dynasty (650-655 AD). The founder of this mountain is Zen master Farang. In the first year of Zhenghe in the Northern Song Dynasty (AD 111), it was changed to its current name. It has a history of more than 1,300 years. After several destructions, constructions and name changes, it has won the reputation of being the largest jungle in the southeast and the highest among Sanskrit monks in the county. Long visited Tianning Temple in Changzhou three times and inscribed a plaque and couplets of Longcheng Xiangjiao for Tianning Temple. The place is bustling with incense and tourists all day long. It is now a nationally protected temple and a cultural relic protection unit in Jiangsu Province. The main hall of Changzhou Tianning Temple has eight halls, twenty-five halls, twenty-four floors, three rooms and two pavilions, with a total area of ??more than 110 acres. The Temple of Heaven is one of the few palaces in China. There are three giant plaques hanging under the eaves, with the three characters "Temple of Heaven" inscribed by Zhao Puchu, vice chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, president of the Chinese Buddhist Association and a famous contemporary calligrapher. In the Luotang, the five hundred Arhats are all resplendent with different expressions and lifelike. The Mahavira Hall is the largest Buddhist hall in the temple and houses three giant Buddhas, commonly known as the Three Buddhas, namely the Nikubu in the middle, the Medicine Buddha Glazed Light Buddha in the Eastern world, and the Amitabha Buddha in the Western Paradise. There are 518 stone statues of Arhats embedded in the walls of the halls on both sides. Their artistic level is extremely rare and they are regarded as the treasures of the palace.
The main buildings of Tiansi Temple include eight halls, twenty-five halls and twenty-four floors. Entering the mountain gate is a spacious patio, facing the Heavenly King's Hall. There are four 7.8-meter-high Heavenly Kings statues on the left and right sides of the hall, which are the tallest statues of the same kind in China. The Maitreya Buddha in the King's Temple sits on a white marble altar. The niche has cornices and 90 Buddha statues carved on the top, which is exquisite and beautiful. The left and right sides of the King's Hall are the Puxian Hall and the Manjusri Hall respectively. On both sides of the patio outside the back door are the Arhat Halls, where five hundred Arhats are enshrined.
The roof of the Main Hall is 33 meters high, 26 meters wide and 27 meters deep, and the iron wooden pillars are about 30 meters high. It is known as the majestic Loutai Mountain and the magnificent clouds. The hall is dedicated to the tall, strange, brilliant and solemn statues of the Three Buddhas, with Ananda and Ye Jia standing in the middle, and behind them is Dao Guanyin, also known as the boy worshiping Guanyin. On both sides of the hall, there are 20 different paradises. There is a huge bell in the right front corner of the Main Hall, weighing 4 tons. At the front corner is a large drum about 2 meters in diameter. There is a bronze Buddha presented by the Thai Buddhist Association in the back right corner of the hall.
The left and right sides of the Main Hall are the Ksitigarbha Hall and the Guanyin Hall respectively. On the corridors on the west and south sides of the Ksitigarbha Hall and the east and south sides of the Guanyin Hall, there are 500 brick-carved Arhat statues in various shapes and lifelike shapes. Behind the Main Hall, there are other buildings such as the Sutra Library. It is said that the four temples of Guanyin, Ksitigarbha, Samantabhadra and Manjusri in Tianning Temple symbolize the four mountains of Putuo, Jiuhua, Emei and Wutai. Therefore, people are used to saying that anyone who burns incense in Tianning Temple is like visiting the four famous Buddhist mountains. There are also places of interest such as Hongmei Pavilion, Wenbi Pavilion, and Boat Pavilion near Tianning Temple.
