Great Rock Want to hear Dou Wei's views on rock and roll?

Dou Wei: The hardest thing is to be quiet.

Date: September 7, 2004

Special host: Miao Ye Photography: Shi Hongwei

Dou Wei: Beijingers. Born in 1969. He used to be the lead singer of Black Panther band, and he wrote almost all his works. Dou Wei left Black Panther band on 1992, when the band was in full swing, but he decided to start over. After a brief cooperation with another band, he finally chose a lonely creative path. There are albums: Dark Dreams, Sunny Days, Mountains and Rivers, Auditory hallucinations and so on.

Dou Wei's present wife Gao Yuan can't be compared with his ex-wife Faye Wong to outsiders, because she is not famous enough, but they live a happy, quiet and undisturbed life, which is exactly what Dou Wei wants. People who don't know him will think that his choice has made him lose a lot, and even think that his life is not as good as before, but I want to tell you that he has been very happy in recent years and is happier than before.

Miao Ye: You are the first person I interviewed in the car. Why do you insist on interviewing in the car?

Dou Wei: Just easy to talk to.

Miao Ye: What kind of places do you like to go?

Dou Wei: Bars, restaurants and cafes are seldom visited. I spent most of these three years in a teahouse in Houhai, Beijing. Just stay there alone and do nothing.

Miao Ye: I think it's quite strange.

Dou Wei: It should be strange to others. Anyway, it's a leisure break. As the saying goes, the hardest thing is to keep quiet. It may be related to age. Sometimes I go to bed early and get up early, but most of the time I get up at noon and start doing something in the afternoon. Compared with previous years, life is a little more leisurely. This change is definitely there. Everyone has big and small changes. But I think this leisure is given to me by God.

Miao Ye: Do musicians earn enough money to support their families?

Dou Wei: It depends on how you set the standard of life. My standards are very general. I have a Fukang car, but it is no different from ordinary people. I'm living in my wife's house on the plateau, with one room and one living room, which is quite small. I really don't expect to have a big residential area now. I have always thought that I should learn from the Japanese in terms of life philosophy. Although the living area is not large, their rooms are well organized and particularly warm. Although the national conditions are different, we can learn from such things to adjust the imbalance caused by desire.

Miao Ye: You have been married to Plateau for several years, and your daughter was born six months ago. Do you like family life?

Dou Wei: I can't say whether I like it or not, but I think family is the foundation of a person, and everything is prosperous.

Miao Ye: Can you do housework?

Dou Wei: Yes, I can cook, but I don't cook often. Sometimes I cook some home-cooked dishes for a rainy day. I'm not picky about food. My favorite food is the most common noodles with dregs and sauce. The other is cleaning at home, which I never tire of hearing. I think people still have to engage in labor, big labor. If there is no social labor, it should be implemented in housework.

Miao Ye: I heard that you always quarrel with Plateau?

Dou Wei: Yes, friction. There are various reasons. Anyway, when two people are together, there will be some friction, so I came over.

Miao Ye: Do you still have contact with your ex-wife Faye Wong?

Dou Wei: Yes, two families exchange visits. Sometimes I go to Hong Kong with Plateau to see her and her daughter, and she and her daughter also come to Beijing.

Miao Ye: Will you miss your daughter?

Dou Wei: That's for sure. My divorce from Faye Wong will definitely affect her, but I can't help it. Everyone has started his own journey from birth, and everyone's journey has his own route.

Miao Ye: Are you more satisfied with your present life and marriage?

Dou Wei: I think it suits me better. I am closer to the plateau in character and values than to Faye Wong.

Miao Ye: Faye Wong seems lively, but you are indifferent?

Dou Wei: Almost. I don't mind you saying so.

Miao Ye: Do you have any problems with Faye Wong in this respect?

Dou Wei: Yes, it's different. But whether she is a utilitarian person or not, I don't know, because she has her environment after all. I want to live a very ordinary life, because I think being a singer or making music is actually a very ordinary thing and a very ordinary way of life. There's no need to look superior, or it's extremely suspended. I don't think it is necessary at all. My understanding of making music is that I only do what I am interested in and good at. That's all. It's that simple.

Miao Ye: What's the big deal?

Dou Wei: Yes. I think so, but others will say how low-key this person is, as if this person deliberately made such a low-key appearance, so this is a misunderstanding caused by some publicity.
