Digital X-ray photography, also known as (DR), is an advanced X-ray photography technology which combines computer digital image processing technology with X-ray radiation technology. Based on the original diagnostic X-ray direct film imaging, it carries out real-time image digital processing through A/D conversion and D/A conversion, and then digitizes the image. Its appearance broke the traditional concept of X-ray machine and realized the transformation from analog X-ray image to digital X-ray image that people dreamed of. Its advantages and characteristics are as follows:

1, DR adopts digital technology, which has a wide dynamic range and a large exposure latitude, thus allowing technical errors in photography, and even obtaining good images in some parts where exposure conditions are difficult to grasp.

2. Its outstanding advantages are high resolution, clear and delicate images, and doctors can carry out various image post-processing such as digital subtraction as needed, thus obtaining ideal diagnosis results.

After exposure, the equipment can display the digital image in real time, and then extract rich and reliable clinical diagnosis information from it through a series of image post-processing functions such as edge enhancement, amplification, black-and-white flipping and image smoothing, which can provide good diagnosis conditions, especially for the discovery of early lesions.

4. Compared with the traditional film imaging, the digital image formed by the digital X-ray machine needs less X-ray dose, so the high-definition image can be obtained with lower X-ray dose, and the harm of X-ray radiation to patients is also reduced. Clinicians and radiologists try to use X-rays instead of fluoroscopy for diagnosis.

5. Because it changes the traditional film photography method, it can be replaced by computer filmless file management method. In addition, due to the appearance of digital X-ray images, the history that X-ray images could not enter the hospital PACS system ended, which provided great convenience for the hospital to conduct remote expert consultation and online communication.
