Songzhuang painter village is located in the north of Tongzhou New Town, Beijing. 1994, Li Xianting, Fang Lijun and other critics of Yuanmingyuan Art Village settled here, which contributed to the collective migration of Yuanmingyuan artists as the main members. Up to now, a large-scale community of freelance artists has been formed, which has been continuously improved and expanded, and thousands of freelance artists and related professionals from all over the country have gathered. Songzhuang Art Museum, located in Baoxiao Village, songzhuang town, provides a platform for exhibition and communication for Songzhuang Painter Village, a special community. The site is located in an idle industrial land near the Sixth Ring Road in the northwest corner of Baoxiao Village in Songzhuang, with some factories and warehouses scattered around it. In the distance is the base of North China Power Grid, with dense and endless high-voltage lines. The houses nearby are typical northern farmhouses. Because of its special geographical location, Songzhuang Art Museum is more attractive and challenging to build a contemporary art museum and a village-level art museum invested by Bao Xiaocun in a traditional northern village compared with well-known public art museums in most prosperous cities (such as Guggenheim Art Museum in new york, Pompidou Art Center in Paris, China Art Museum in Beijing, etc.). So what kind of design can respect the geographical background of Songzhuang in image and accommodate the unpredictable future art in space? At the beginning of 2005, nearly a thousand artists had gathered and lived in Songzhuang, and the number was still expanding. Artists have become an important part of the village population structure. The art museum built in such a densely populated working and living area will be a temple or church in this future art community, where artists regularly worship and meet. What should this place look like? The first thing to consider is the geographical environment where the art museum is located. The folk houses in Songzhuang are typical farmhouses in the north, surrounded by a large red brick wall. All rooms face the courtyard with lighting, ventilation and privacy. From the outside, each yard is a box surrounded by a big red wall without windows, and there is not much sense of design. We learn from this residential form: the main exhibition and academic space of the art museum is surrounded by a series of square boxes of different sizes, and the light passes through the inner courtyard or the top. The size of the specific space and the size of the wall are set according to the functional requirements. These square boxes leave the ground and float in the air, forming a horizontal and transparent place with the ground, which can accommodate various service facilities and functions of the art museum, such as offices, warehouses, toilets, power distribution and so on. , not only can be used for small exhibitions, but also a relaxed exchange place. As a result, the architectural form presents a sharp contrast: the first floor space has windows without walls, and the second floor space has walls without windows. A layer of transparent glass curtain wall nearly 3 meters high surrounds the building, which makes the indoor and outdoor sight run through. The gray bricks on the ground extend from the square through the double glass to the room. The exhibition can also be extended from the interior of the building to the outdoor sculpture square, emphasizing the invitation and openness of the space, and you can see the landscape around the art museum. All kinds of service facilities are combined with rest benches, weakened into square boxes of furniture scale, European pine board walls with industrial traces, and dark gray rough floor tiles, showing a clear sense of material in one space. The second floor space uses white to dilute the material sense of the space, and light is only the basic element of functional requirements. The art here is the purest scenery. The Art Museum is invested by Bao Xiao Village Committee, with a construction area of about 5,000 square meters and a total cost of about 3,000 yuan/square meter. The building and indoor construction are completed by the village construction team, and the building materials are mainly produced by the village manufacturers. The design started in the spring of 2005, started in the summer and was completed in the summer of 2006. On June 6, 2006, 10, the opening exhibition of the Art Museum was held on the opening day of the second Songzhuang Cultural Festival, and the Songzhuang Art Museum was officially launched. As the first building of the local creative cultural park, the art museum is also an exhibition space that nearly a thousand artists pay attention to, and in a sense, it is a temple of this art community. As a village art museum with the lowest administrative level in the world, as an industrial land on the edge of a village in the suburbs of Beijing, it should be different from the cultural buildings in the metropolis and try to avoid excessive sense of design and form.
