Plato's most memorable metaphor is his cave metaphor or light source metaphor, which Augustine effectively used for reference in his religious theology argument.

Augustine successfully used Plato's metaphor of light source to demonstrate Christian belief. He compared God to "perfect" light, compared human soul to eyes, and compared reason to vision. The ultimate pursuit of life is to turn to God. In this way, the rationalism dualism of Plato's idealism was transformed into the dualism of Christian philosophy based on the dichotomy of "the city of God" and "the city of secular", which actually constituted the classic mode of integrating Christian theology and Greek philosophy in later medieval scholasticism, and it formed an Augustine-Platonism route.

He placed Plato above all other philosophers. He believes that all philosophers should give way to Plato: "Let Thales go with his water, let Anaximenes go with the air, let the Stoics go with the fire, and let Epicurus go with his atoms."

Plato thinks that God is not a material thing; But everything gets its existence from God and some constants. He said that perception is not the source of truth. All these views were adopted by Augustine, thus becoming a master of the late Roman godfather philosophy.
