Documentary "Dynasty"

This is the first documentary that Liu Dengdeng officially started watching, and he even bought a Tencent membership specifically for this purpose. In fact, I have watched some documentaries off and on before, about history and humanities, geography, terrestrial life, marine life, etc. But I basically forgot about it after reading it. If I can find a place to keep recording it, it would be a big gain if I add up a little.

This documentary has only 5 episodes. Each episode focuses on one subject, namely chimpanzees, emperor penguins, lions, variegated wolves and tigers, and lasts about an hour.

Chimpanzees are social animals in the forest. This episode tells the story of a tribal leader named David who has entered the middle-aged stage and his status is threatened at any time, but he returns to the top of power with his tenacious will, amazing strategy and courage. From it, we can have a deeper understanding of what it means to persevere and endure hardship. After David was defeated by the young chimpanzee, he was scarred and dying. The tribe members were also taken to other areas by the new leader. I thought he would die alone where he was, but the next scene surprised me about this species or the old leader. Intelligence and will. It silently licked its wounds, actively hunted to replenish its physical strength, and restored its combat skills bit by bit. Finally, it challenged the new leader. It knew it had no chance of failure, so it had to appear stronger and more ferocious than it actually was, and in the end, David won without a fight. But this is not the end. In order to consolidate its position, it must select its loyal supporters, and its position cannot be threatened, so an older and experienced "leadership team" was established. Sure enough, there is also a battle of wits and courage in the animal world.

Emperor Penguin, the iconic creature of the Antarctic Circle. Although their habitat is the Antarctic, extreme cold weather is still a test and threat to their survival and reproduction. The penguin mother is responsible for laying eggs, and the penguin father is responsible for protecting and incubating them. In extremely cold climates, penguin eggs and penguin chicks must be protected under the "penguin bag" at all times to grow up safely. The two most impressive scenes here are "looting" and "abandonment". After the penguin mother lays her eggs, she sets out to forage alone, while the penguin father incubates and protects the chicks. However, under the long-term raging cold wind and snow, this work cannot be foolproof. So when a penguin mother comes back and discovers that her chicks or even her husband no longer exist, she will snatch them from other couples when they are handing over their chicks. This simply breaks through my knowledge of more than 20 years. Another famous scene is "abandonment", which may also be called "choice". The fledgling penguin chicks are unable to withstand the cold weather in Antarctica. They must be held by adult penguins at all times on the soles of their feet and protected under their bellies to survive. However, this results in adult penguins having limited movement and being unable to climb, jump, etc. Therefore, when they fall into desperate situations such as snow ditches and ice crevices, adult penguins have to abandon their young and survive alone, otherwise they will all lose their lives here. Yes, just by fighting against the natural environment, the survival and reproduction of species have reached a cruel level.

Lion, a king-like presence on the African grasslands. It turns out that there can be no males in a lion tribe. It is really hard work for adult females to complete the work of hunting, raising and protecting cubs with the power of one lion. Even more difficult is the fact that protecting cubs not only means protecting them from other species, but also protecting them from adult male lions. Because after the adult male lions complete their military rule over the female lion tribe, they will kill the young lions, leaving only the adult female lions that can mate to breed their own offspring. Therefore, the lioness mother in the tribe has an extremely difficult responsibility. Even though lions are born with excellent combat capabilities, each lion has really made a huge effort to protect its tribe and reproduce.

Colorful wolves, a typical gregarious species. Although it is a bit one-sided, I still want to say that the emergence of derogatory terms such as "wolf-hearted and dog-lunged" and "white-eyed wolf" are not without reason. The leader of the wolf pack is a female, and the leader of the other wolf pack is also a female. When food becomes scarce in the tribal territory, the daughter attacks her mother. Whether it was the difference in strength or emotional concession, the daughter won, and the mother was forced to lead her tribe into the crisis-ridden lion territory. If the daughter's attack on her mother is cruel, then the daughter's act of killing her mother can be called unbelievably cruel. The daughter led the tribe members into her mother's new territory late one night, with the intention of driving her mother's tribe further away. However, due to lack of combat experience, she was constantly attacked by other species in the new territory, and she lost her mother's tribe before they even had a confrontation. The army was so disastrous that they had no choice but to retreat, and the mother tribe gained a short period of peace.

Tiger, the king of the jungle. Generally speaking, the stories of the tiger tribe and the lion tribe are similar, except that one lives in the grassland and the other lives in the jungle. What impressed me most is that when female tigers are giving birth to cubs, they patrol and mark the edges of their territory to protect them from infringement, which is considered as fulfilling a father's responsibility.

Another feeling worth sharing about this documentary is that the hard work and dedication of the staff behind the scenes are very admirable.

A short one-hour video may take several months to shoot and produce. The photographer is in the jungle, on the grassland, or on the Antarctic ice, facing high temperatures, extreme cold, loneliness and isolation, perhaps out of love or loyalty to his profession. , when they record the precious images of creatures for the first time, they may silently encourage themselves in their hearts, it is worth it. When we humans watch these scenes, reflect on our own actions, and are willing to contribute a small amount to the cause of animal protection, I also want to say to them that it is worth it.
