10 shooting skills to record the scenery along the way.
(1) Plan your trip well.
In order to take good travel photos smoothly, a detailed data collection and travel plan is necessary, because you must first know where there is a good subject and what is the right time. Some special activities are only held on certain days. If you don't have a good plan, you will miss the wonderful moment of shooting!
However, one interesting thing about travel photography is its "adventure" element, so you might as well take your camera around for some time, maybe you can find some unexpected surprises!
Plan your trip well.
(2) Carrying an appropriate amount of equipment.
It's really a headache for travel shooting. I'm afraid the equipment is not enough, and carrying too much is also a problem. I have taken many trips. Let me make this arrangement to see if it suits you:
1. [Required] A fuselage, spare batteries and cleaning supplies.
2. [Required] Wide-angle and telephoto lenses
3. [Necessary] Travel tripod
4. [Recommended] Fisheye lens
5. [Recommended] Large aperture fixed focus lens
6. [Recommended] Dimming filter, gradient gray filter, polarizer
7.[ Unnecessary] External Flash
I usually set off with a camera, three mirrors, a filter and a tripod, which is enough to meet most shooting needs!
(c) road trip makes shooting easier.
In some places that need long-distance travel, such as Australia, the United States and Europe, going to road trip can make your trip easier-you can not only start and stay at any time (especially shooting the starry sky at night), but also put spare equipment in the car to reduce the burden.
(D) Basic writing skills
For beginners, here are some basic shooting techniques that can be applied quickly and should be helpful for your shooting:
Shallow depth of field can be described as a very simple and easy-to-use composition method, which can not only make the subject more prominent, but also blur some inevitable backgrounds. You must learn it! To take a shallow depth of field, you can enlarge the aperture, increase the focal length and find a background far away from the subject, so that even ordinary equipment can take a beautiful shallow depth of field effect.
Frame composition:
If you find something similar to a "photo frame", you might as well make more use of it! A "frame" is not necessarily anything substantial, it can be some virtual lines or even trees!
Triangular composition
Triangular composition can make the picture stable, suitable for shooting small bridges, buildings and so on.
Comparative composition:
The most commonly used contrasts are size contrast, color contrast and distance contrast. It depends on your "photographic eye" to capture! Have you tried to photograph the contrast between the subject and the shadow?
Application of guiding line:
Finding a guide line can naturally bring the reader's eyes to the main body of the photo. The guide line can also be "foreground", so it should be used more.
(5) Looking for interesting angles.
Many students will take pictures when they arrive at a scenic spot. In fact, the shooting angle at first sight is usually not the best. We can enjoy the scenic spots first, see what their characteristics are, and think about which angle will take meaningful and story-telling photos.
People will shoot like this when they encounter this situation. Although you can record your appearance, it is very common.
By changing the angle, you can take the previous photo as a silhouette and bring sunshine into the photo.
(6) Pay attention to the direction of light.
As a novice, you may not be familiar with light. The simplest thing is to see whether the subject is "forward light", "side light" or "reverse light".
"Guang Shun" can shoot bright scenery, but it will be a bit boring;
"Side light" makes the scene have a shadow and expresses the outline;
"Backlight" can be used to take silhouette or deliberately take overexposed photos.
When traveling, you may not be able to shoot in the best time and light. At this time, you should make good use of the characteristics of the light above to compose a composition! If you can, it's also a good idea to walk more and change your angle.
(7) Add foreground.
Adding foreground to photos can enrich your composition, so be sure to pay more attention; And carefully choosing the background can make your theme more prominent, and can also better express the environment and feelings at that time!
Focus on the flowers in the foreground and use the windmill in the background as a foil. Shallow depth of field blurs the background and highlights the main body of the foreground.
(8) Make good use of slow shutter
If you have a tripod, you can try to shoot running water, seaside and passers-by with a slow shutter!
(9) Shooting the starry sky
Living in a big city, the light damage is serious, and it is difficult to take beautiful pictures of the starry sky. In some remote places or places with less light damage, such as Australia and New Zealand, you might as well take more photos of the starry sky! The basic shooting setting is large aperture, and the exposure cannot exceed 25 seconds (otherwise it will become a star track). ISO can be 800, 1600, etc. It is very important to add a foreground to the starry sky photos, which can make them more attractive!
(ten) the use of late strengthening effect.
Using Photoshop or other post-software to make some appropriate changes can make the photos more attractive. The basic modifications are adjusting shadows/highlights, contrast and saturation. If necessary, you can also use the cutting tool for secondary synthesis. There is also a trick: for some photos that have failed to be exposed, you can try to turn them into black and white photos, and there will often be surprises. Give it a try!
