Root-seeking literature is an influential literary school that appeared around 1985. Zheng Wanlong's My Roots, Li Hangyu's Manage Our Roots and Han Shaogong's Roots of Literature all define, explain and develop the concept of "seeking roots".

"Seeking roots" has become the central word of these articles, which not only shows their dissatisfaction with the current situation of the literary world, but also shows a common desire: literature should break through the superficial "reality" level, dig deep soil of its own "ancient culture" and have a real dialogue with "world literature".

I am familiar with Daddy Daddy by Han Shaogong, which symbolically and allegorically describes the historical changes of a primitive tribe, Jitouzhai, showing a closed, stagnant, ignorant and backward national cultural form. Bingzai, the hero, has a strange and wretched appearance, as if he can see the abnormal and morbid way of thinking in a closed village through his words and deeds, which is a profound reflection and criticism of traditional culture.

"Dad Dad" shows a closed traditional culture close to the primitive state, which is incompatible with the progress of human beings and the forward development of civilization, and obviously criticizes the stagnant malignant tumor factors in traditional culture. The villagers who live in it don't feel anything wrong with such a closed and morbid way, and they are opposed and excluded from foreign culture. They are immersed in a closed life day after day, so the author hopes to break down the barriers against cultural exchanges and reach a state of dialogue with the outside world.

Of course, we can't give up the excavation of our own national culture, but it also needs constant innovation. Modern civilization is constantly developing. While maintaining its "roots", it also needs to keep pace with the times and collide with modern civilization.
