How to learn to draw illustrations from scratch

Painting, especially illustration, should be free and casual, without being too nervous. Painting is not good-looking, painting is not right or something, which are all bad attitudes that hinder you from painting. It is the first step to learn illustration from scratch to dare to draw.

2, start painting from simple painting.

For example, stick figure, I also learned from stick figure, after all, from scratch. I have read a sentence about photography before: beginners of photography must learn to take pictures before they can take good pictures. Painting is the same, draw what you want to draw first, and then draw it, so that you can recognize what it is. So there is a key point here, that is, train yourself to grasp the characteristics of each item, which is the most clear part when you think about it and see it. 3. Collect and record.

After mastering the characteristics, we entered the stage of "sketching", that is, looking for a book and recording what we saw and wanted to draw at any time and place with our mood. There are a lot of materials, and it is not difficult to use them again after painting. It is very important to record with stick figures, and such records can also practice the fluency of lines. At the same time, we also need to collect decoration methods. One of the characteristics of illustration is decorative. There are many methods, indoor decoration and outdoor decoration. When you see something beautiful, write it down and try to use it in your own works.

4. Combine, think and change.

Combine the collected things in some ways, which can be reference, learning, or even violent thinking, combined with your own style. At the same time, give full play to your imagination and exaggerate (enlarge, shrink, flatten, lengthen, skew, twist, etc. ) captured features, change the collected materials, and add their own elements. Then, think about how to make the combined things creative and interesting. It is also the way to learn from others, the methods and steps to learn creativity, and slowly you will come out of your own small universe in generate and have your own creativity;

5. Make works and share them.

What I usually do is practice, do some so-called complete works, and express my thoughts in my own way, which can be a single article, a series or a work with a theme. In this process, learn to use appropriate methods and techniques to complete the work, not seeking complexity, atmosphere and worship, but seeking your own satisfaction and rich pictures, whether visually or emotionally, so that people who see it feel interesting, have something to say and have questions, and you can really start illustration from scratch.

With works, learn to share, exaggerate, communicate and ask for advice. In short, when you show your work, there will be all kinds of feedback, which can be ignored. What is important is to look at the suggestions and opinions given by others and how others feel about your work. The above five steps can only help you learn illustration from scratch, and of course you need some professional knowledge to learn it well. For example, what Kim said earlier. Sketch, sketch, human body structure, cg techniques and other professional knowledge can be learned, but the most difficult thing is color. Everyone feels really different. I belong to that kind of "I can get by without painting, and painting will be ugly." However, I chose the stick figure and simply colored it. I only used the 24-color watercolor pen we used since childhood to make some changes, levels and shadows. I am satisfied myself, but I also need to study more and improve myself.

Painting is a lifelong thing, and it is a pleasure after getting started. Practice is necessary. Casual and unconstrained style is the essence of illustration. Don't stick to what technology and tools you use to find a state. After all, drawing illustrations is not your job, but your task. Just relax。 But for thinking, it is more important.
