Xie Chuyu was born in 1962 in Shantou City, Guangdong. He graduated from the Oil Painting Department of Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts in 1988, is an associate professor of the Oil Painting Department of Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts, and a painter of Guangdong Academy of Fine Arts. He is famous for his oil painting "Tao" - "A Girl Holding a Pottery".

Since 1989, he has held five personal exhibitions in Guangzhou, Taiwan and Singapore. In 1993 and 2001, he went to the United States and France respectively for academic exchanges and professional inspections. He has traveled to nearly 30 countries so far. Years of exploration and practice have formed a painting style that is exquisite and rigorous, elegant and clean. Representative works include "Chinese Girl", "Tao", "Fisting Gloves on the Wooden Board", etc.

He has participated in many large-scale art exhibitions such as "Chinese Oil Painting Art Exhibition", "Eighth National Art Exhibition Outstanding Works Exhibition", "Chinese Oil Painting Elite Invitational Exhibition". He has been introduced many times by magazines such as "Art", "Chinese Oil Painting", "Collection World", "Artist", "Gallery", "Modern Pictorial" and other magazines.
