Zhao is a writer, director and screenwriter in China. 1969 was born in a cadre family in Pizhou, Jiangsu. 1994 to 1998 studied in the Department of Drama and Literature of Shanghai Theatre Academy and obtained a bachelor's degree. 1998-2000 worked as editor-in-chief of news column, general planner and director of variety column in Beijing TV station. From 2000 to 2003, he studied in the director department of Beijing Film Academy and got a master's degree. After that, he stayed at Beijing Film Academy.
