How to measure the focal length with a good camera?

I'm summicon50mm and summicon35mm now. Before, there was always a hero who said that 35mm was almost the same as 50mm, and only one was enough. I think the people who said these words at least didn't make good use of and understand these two focal lenses. This is just a joke. The difference between 35mm and 50mm is so far, especially in the body and use of Leica. It can be said that every time I change from 35mm to 50mm, or from 50mm to 35mm, I have to endure "middle-aged dementia" for a long time, and that "feel" has to be adapted for a long time before it can be used smoothly.

Another thing that needs to be practiced is to blindly measure and estimate the image field range of a lens, such as a 35mm lens and a 50mm lens, and what range of scenery can be captured in what position. What's the use of doing this? After doing this, you can "stand in the most important shooting position for the first time", because Leica's M series zoom lens is not used by many people, and even the cloud platform is not stepless zoom, so you can't narrow or expand the shooting range through the zoom lens, you can only move by your own steps. If you already know where you can shoot, then you can choose to appear in that position at the first time, not to raise the camera. At first glance, it's so close, and it's still too small, which will delay things. It may retreat to the right position, and the chicken flies and the dog jumps, and even the hair is gone.

Once the "focus position feel" and "lens range judgment" are formed, at this time, you will find that Leica is the extension of your arm, the eye of your eyes and the extension of your steps. There is no need to temporarily consider focusing, temporarily judge the phase range, and raise your hand. The feeling that everything is under control is really beautiful. At this time, Leica has become your most trusted friend and reliable partner, just like a local dog raised since childhood (you can also choose black or white, how nice, to feel like God), and never give up. You can let it go wherever you want and bite whoever you want. How cool. If someone steals it, it's none of my business. )

My shooting habit is to use the touch of the focus position to adjust the focus to the position when lifting the camera, and then use the lens to walk to the appropriate position according to the size of the image field. At this time, just lift the camera and press the shutter. If the subject moves very fast, I still don't look at the right focus to focus, or rely on the touch of the lens to determine the focus change. Looking at the viewfinder at this time only controls the position of this moving object in my whole picture.

Q: Which lens has the highest usage rate?

A: I have two cameras, and the film is the same, so I don't need to change the lens. I'll take out any camera I need. 1996- 1998 During the three years, the 35mm lens was used the most, accounting for about 80% of the use probability and 20% of the meter head. In the last five years, this proportion has been reversed, and the probability of using headers accounts for 80%.

Q: Why do you like heading so much now?

A: First of all, the head is similar to a person's perspective, and the picture taken will not have a strong perspective effect and looks very comfortable; Secondly, my style does not emphasize visual impact and does not pursue weird composition forms. I prefer quiet visual composition. I use a storytelling method more, so I choose a relaxed perspective, which is easy to be accepted by everyone. The picture taken by the header can make readers pay more attention to the content of the picture, not its expression. It makes readers feel true, kind, not grandiose, and does not pursue the so-called shock. It is more conducive to expressing the connotation of the work, more in line with my understanding of the feeling of seeing strange things with a normal heart, and gives the photo an internal tension.

In addition, the meter is very suitable for my observation. Towards the creative road of choice and shooting. I seldom shoot grand scenes, but I pay more attention to people's living conditions. This happens to be the best expressive field of header. At the same time, keep a certain psychological distance from people. I think the natural, free and primitive life state it represents is the most real. When shooting with a wide-angle lens, it is psychologically offensive to people, and the subject has a natural resistance. The headline reduces this aggression to an acceptable level.

Moreover, a camera and a lens are all light for photographers, and there is no need to bear the burden. One machine, one machine leaves you no choice, so you will study the expressive force of the equipment in your hand, although the lack of equipment will make the photographer pay more attention to the performance of the content and make it easier to succeed. That's why I trust heading more and more.

Q: What kind of psychological process have you experienced from the initial 28mm and 35mm lenses to the current 50mm standard lenses?

Answer: To be precise, when I first wrote the book "People in the Mountains of Yunnan", I borrowed a super wide angle of 18mm, only used it once and never used it again. As one of my shooting experiments, I feel that 18mm lens is easier to shoot and control images. But its biggest problem is that it is untrue and exaggerated. Later, the 20mm lens was used for more than a year. Since then, I feel shy every time I see the picture taken by this lens. Seriously distorted the image of the subject and felt disrespectful to the subject. The relationship between the floating people and them seen from the viewfinder is much more comfortable, very close to what I want to express, natural, sincere and respectful. It should be said that I will still take the header as my main shot in the future, unless it is a very rare case. Of course, I don't exclude shots of other specifications.

Because of my own personality, shooting theme and expression form, the opening title easily makes me feel the integration of man and machine. Now I can know the relationship and position of the subject in the viewfinder without looking through the viewfinder. This has become my habit, thanks to a subconscious visual training. I'm more and more obsessed with this way of shooting. This method has gone through five years from unfamiliarity to proficiency, and the last five years are from proficiency to maturity.

Of course, cameras and lenses are tools, and different cameras and lenses use and observe in different ways. Photographers should choose their favorite tools according to their own needs and feelings.
