Familiar with the advance of German officers in World War II
In the Battle of Ardennes, his battle group, as a pioneer, broke into American positions. 19441February 17, after breaking through the American defense line, Piper's battle group soon reached [Stavlot] near the town of Trisponzi. The US Army's 202nd Engineering Battalion was too late to prepare for blasting, so the bridge across the Ambly River there was captured by Piper's tanks and armored infantry. However, after passing Stavlot, the winding Ambly River blocked the way of the Piper battle group in Trisponzi town. Piper stopped at Stavlot for the night because the troops had been fighting hard for three days and two nights. It was not until the early morning of 18 that he sent a team of armored infantry and panther tanks along the N-23 road to the town of Trisponzi.
At this time, the rear of the American army was in chaos. Only Company C of No.51Engineering Battalion is stationed near Trisponzi town. The company arrived in Trisponzi town at midnight on 17, and was busy preparing to blow up two bridges in the town. The first time was in the northwest of Trisponzi town, the Ambly River overpass on the N-23 highway was blown up by the 29th1engineering battalion. The task of Company C of No.51Engineering Battalion is the most important, because the two bridges they are responsible for blasting are on the marching route of Piper Battle Group. In order to prevent the Germans from killing before the completion of the blasting preparation, Major Yates of No.51Engineering Battalion [[〔May robert Tyates〕]] decided to set up an outpost on the other side of the Ambly River. However, this engineering team lacks anti-tank weapons. The whole company C has only eight rocket launchers, and the Germans will definitely take the lead with tanks. While worrying, Major Yates accidentally discovered an M 1 57mm anti-tank gun and four gunners in the town of Trisponzi. This gun was left by a trailer failure when the 526th Panzer Corps retreated from Chantavello. Major Yates immediately ordered four gunners to set up cannons on the N-23 road on the other side of the Ambly River, and five engineers covered them with rifles. At that time, the 57 mm gun was outdated, and its armor-piercing projectile could not penetrate the front armor of the German Panther tank at all. However, four gunners of the 526th Armored Infantry Regiment, Buchanan, Freek Heerkens, Helen Baker and McCullin, did not hesitate to push their guns across the bridge and to the side of the road. An engineer asked them, "There are only seven shells, is that enough?" They all replied, "If you can't finish the task in seven rounds, you don't need any more." This task is too dangerous. You may be killed before all the shells are fired. 〕
At eleven o'clock, a Panther tank of Piper battle group finally appeared on the N-23 highway. The gunner of the 57 mm gun knew that the armor was invalid before shooting, so he aimed at the track. Their first shell hit the target accurately, and the German Panther tank could not move forward because of the broken track, completely blocking the N-23 highway. At this time, the 5th1engineering battalion in Trisponzi Town has completed the preparation for blasting. As soon as they heard the gunshots, they immediately blew up the two northernmost bridges.
Shortly after completing the mission, the 57 mm artillery on Highway 23 was hit by 75 mm high-explosive shells fired by Panther tanks. All four gunners died heroically, and the other five engineers fled the battlefield in chaos. After all three bridges in Trisponzi town were blown up, Piper had to go north to find another bridge. Meanwhile, Colonel Anderson of the US Army111Combat Corps wondered which bridge would be the next target of the Germans. Anderson guessed that Papp would cross the Ambly River with the bridge in the town of Cherieux (12300: Cherieux), but it would be too late to send engineers to blow up the bridge, because the town of Cherieux is several kilometers away from Trisponzi, but there are no American engineers nearby.
Fortunately, if Pip crosses the river in Nokes town, he will cross the' lienne' river, a tributary of Ambly, on the bridge of Habiment. Anderson immediately ordered a company from the 29th 12300 wer. bomont Engineering Battalion in Wilbermont to blow up the bridge in Habibimont. The result was a grotesque and slow "Ha Bi Meng Competition". At that time, most of the personnel and vehicles of Company A had been sent to Trimonte Town, leaving only one shift of the company and a faulty truck to be repaired. The scholar in charge of leading this important task on the island was forced to use that broken truck to transport explosives and the manpower needed for blasting. As this truck can only travel17km per hour, Staff Sergeant Seager didn't reach his destination until 3pm. In principle, Piper's battle group left for Trisponzi at noon, and should have arrived in Habiment before 3 o'clock. However, on the way, 365th and 368th brigades 16 P-47 fighter-bombers braved the bad weather to bomb and strafe, so Piper's vanguard troops were delayed to arrive in Habiment until 4: 30 in the afternoon. At this time, Piggy's engineers had just prepared for blasting. When the first German tank drove into Habimont, American troops blew up the bridge.
It is said that when Piper heard the news, he was so angry that he could only curse himself: "Those damn engineers! Those damn engineers! " When Piper found that his progress was blocked, he returned to Lagliz town on the east bank of Ambly River and prepared to camp for the night. At noon that day, Piper ordered two reconnaissance teams to advance along Lillney Creek and go downstream to find a bridge for tanks to cross. However, during this period, the US military has taken the opportunity to send the 30th Infantry Division and the 82nd Airborne Division to reinforce Stormont-Stavilo-Mayer's position. A "bridge-seeking" reconnaissance company of Piper Battle Group was ambushed by the vanguard troops of the 30th Division just north of Wilbermont, and was almost completely annihilated.
At the same time, the 30th Division 1 17 Infantry Regiment regained Sta Villot on 18, completely cutting off the supply of Piper's battle group. Piper didn't know there was an American oil depot north of Laglitz, and his troops soon ran out of fuel. Because the advance of Piper battle group was too important for the whole German battle plan, the Germans had to try to reopen his supply line. The order of the piper battle group is still to continue to find ways to March on the Moose River. In order to achieve this goal, the Germans successively played their two "trump cards"-the 50 th1heavy tank battalion of SS and the 〔koenigttiger〕 tank of the 50 th 150 armored brigade of SS.
Throughout the battle of the bulge, the Germans always used only about 150 Tiger I and Tiger II heavy tanks. However, in the chaotic battle, almost all German tanks were mistaken for Tiger King heavy tanks by retreating American troops. The movie The End of the World centers on this mistake. In fact, most American troops found that the "invulnerable" German tanks were Panthers. As early as the landing in Normandy, the US military had discovered that their M-3 75mm tank guns, M-157mm anti-tank guns and M-5 76mm anti-tank guns could not penetrate the Panther frontal armor with an inclination of 55 degrees and 80mm when firing ordinary armor-piercing projectiles.
The U.S. military found that it takes four to five M-4 Sherman tanks or M- 10 tank destroyers to destroy a Panther. Shoot two or three cars from the front to attract the panther's attention, and the rest shoot the latter's thinner side armor from the flank. In the case of "outnumbered", this method still works, but when the Germans concentrated a large number of Panther-style attacks in the battle of the bulge, the US military found it difficult to resist. In Normandy, American troops always had air support to attack German tanks that ground troops could not cope with. However, at the beginning of the battle of projection, the weather in Belgium was very bad, which greatly limited the attendance of allied fighters. 〕
Although Piper's battle group has 30 Tiger King tanks belonging to the 50th1Heavy Tank Battalion, Piper thinks Tiger King is too slow and too heavy, so he used lighter Panther and No.4 medium tank as pioneers when he broke through the American defense. 10 On the 8th,10 Tiger King from 2nd Company, 5th Battalion of Waffen-SS crossed the Ambly River through Sta Villot Bridge and joined Piper's vanguard in Lagliz. However, when the three Tiger Kings of the first company of the battalion arrived in Sta Villot around midnight, the117th Regiment of the 30th Division of the US Army had cut off the street leading to the crossing bridge.
On the afternoon of 1 17, the 1st Infantry Regiment recovered Sta Villot, and was quickly reinforced by three M-4 Sherman tanks belonging to the 743rd Tank Battalion of the 30th Infantry Division and four 76mm anti-tank guns belonging to the 823rd Ejection Tank Battalion. 50 1 When the three Tiger Kings led by Captain wiesel, the first company commander of the heavy tank battalion, arrived in Stavelott, they happened to be ambushed by American infantry equipped with rocket launchers. 1 17, a platoon led by Captain Melly of Company A, south of Stavelott, took the lead in rushing to King Tiger with a rocket launcher numbered 105 on the street leading to Ambly River Bridge. Although the rocket did not penetrate the 88mm gun shield of Tiger King, it forced the heavy tanks to retreat. Tiger King's driver was trapped because he couldn't see the obstacles behind him, so he knocked down a big house. Captain wiesel had to abandon the car and run away. The other two crew members of Tiger King quickly turned around and left Stavlot because they couldn't see the American troops lying in ambush.
19 At noon, another Tiger King from the 2nd Company of the 50th1Heavy Tank Battalion also arrived in Sta Villot. Shortly after noon, this Tiger King No.222, together with three No.4 tanks, covered the German infantry attacking Stavilo. However, under the heavy artillery bombardment of the 30th Division of the U.S. Army, the German infantry couldn't move on, and King Tiger No.222 and three tanks No.4 were still moving towards the Ambly River Bridge in Stavelott. About 40 meters away from the bridge, the first No.4 tank was hit from the side by a 76 mm anti-tank gun from the 823 expulsion battalion, so that the ammunition in the German tank was detonated and the turret was completely blown off the car body. When the other two No.4 tanks rushed to the bridge, they were also violently shot from the side by the US 76 mm anti-tank gun. One of them was injured and could not fight back or move. The last tank 4 retreated to the town.
When King Tiger 222 was about to get on the bridge, he was also hit by two armor-piercing bullets from a 76 mm gun. Because King Tiger's side armor was only 80mm, and the 76mm shells of the US army were fired from a very close distance (about 500m), two armor-piercing bullets completely destroyed this heavy tank. The German attack was a complete failure. To make matters worse, the 30th Division of the US Army sent the 105 Battalion to Ambly that night. Under the cover of smoke bombs, this group of engineers finally blew up Ambly Bridge in Stavrott town, completely cutting off the supply line of Pape battle group.
On the morning of the same day (19), the piper battle group launched a large-scale attack on Stormont. Piper knew that there was a bridge across the Somme River between 〔Targnon〕, west of Stormont, and Stormont Railway Station, but he probably didn't know that the bridge could only be used by pedestrians, but there was no room for tanks. Therefore, the attack of Piper's battle group is completely futile, because even if they achieve their goal, there is still no bridge to cross the Somme. Moreover, because the first armored division of the Waffen-SS could not get through the supply line, the Piper battle group only had two to three days of combat fuel, so even if the United States did not stop it, they could not continue to advance westward. In any case, Piper I * * * sent a battalion of No.4 and Leopard medium tanks, ten tiger kings of the second company of No.501heavy tank battalion, a mobile anti-aircraft gun company, a105mm self-propelled artillery company, a battalion of the second Panzergrenadier regiment of the Waffen SS and a company of the third paratroopers division to take part in the attack.
In order to stop Piper's battle group from advancing, the 30th Infantry Division dispatched two battalions of the 1st 1 19 Infantry Regiment and a company of the 743rd Tank Battalion. A company of the 400th armored field artillery battalion and the 823rd ejection tank battalion is stationed in Stormont and Tagono. However, when the Piper battle group arrived in the early morning of 19, the 743rd tank battalion and artillery unit had not yet arrived in Stormont, which caused three battalions of the 1 19 regiment and one company of the 823rd expulsion tank battalion to be attacked by eight 76mm anti-tank guns in the town. Just then, two 90mm anti-aircraft guns from Company C of 143 anti-aircraft gun battalion just arrived in Stormont. The US First Army Command sent these two anti-aircraft guns to support the 30th Division because it was worried that the 30th Division was short of anti-tank firepower. The 90 mm main gun of M-36 was modified from this anti-aircraft gun.
Originally, the U.S. military planned to erect two guns of the 1st 1 43rd anti-aircraft artillery battalion on the road leading to Lagliz outside Stormont to cover the roadblocks set by the 1st1219th regiment1. However, in the chaos, a 90mm anti-aircraft gun and its trailer of the No.1143rd anti-aircraft gun battalion accidentally skidded off the road near the railway station on the outskirts of Stormont and got stuck in the mud, so the US military had to erect another 90mm anti-aircraft gun next to a farm to cover the roadblock. At about 7 o'clock, a second lieutenant from 1 company came to the position of 143 anti-aircraft artillery battalion and called volunteers to deal with two German tanks on Lagliz highway. Although there is no experience in using rocket launchers at all, private Dallaige and private Schmann volunteered to take part in this dangerous task. After Captain I Company briefly explained the operation of the rocket launcher, two high gunners each took a rocket launcher to "shoot the tiger". In the thick fog, D 'Alegg and Schmann could touch the back of the German tank. At this time, they found four German tanks-two Panthers and two Tiger Kings-parked on the Laglitz highway. Dallaige and Schmann opened fire behind the two nearest tanks. As a result, a panther and a tiger king were hit by rockets and caught fire. The Germans immediately fired machine guns at the positions of Dalag and Schmann. However, the two meritorious artillery officers were able to safely return to friendly positions in the chaos.
Soon, the tanks of Piper battle group began to attack the barricades of I company ../90 mm anti-aircraft guns of KLOC-0/43 anti-aircraft artillery battalion opened fire on a leading Tiger King tank. The first armor-piercing bullet hit the target's left track, and the second bullet broke its barrel. The crew of this Tiger King abandoned the car and fled after the tank lost power and combat capability. Even so, under the fierce attack of the German armored grenadiers, the American army was soon forced to abandon the barricade near the farm, and the ammunition truck of the143rd anti-aircraft artillery battalion was also hit by German artillery fire. After destroying the barrel of the 90 mm gun, the American anti-aircraft gun also withdrew from the position.
Outside the town of Stormont, the Piper battle group headed by paratroopers met with tenacious resistance from Company I and Company K, the 3rd Battalion of the 1st119th Regiment. At that time, a German photographer had filmed some thrilling actual combat clips. In one clip, Major Puzhike, the battalion commander of the 1st Battalion of the 1st Armored Regiment of the Waffen-SS, picked up a 〔Panzer-faust〕 rocket launcher from the ground and warned the commander of each tank: "Whoever retreats will be shot!" Subsequently, a German Panther tank sailed to the US military position, but soon after the tank was advanced, it suddenly caught fire in a 76 mm shelling when the US Army 823 expelled the tank battalion A company. Only one of the five passengers in the car survived. He climbed out of the burning panther and fled to the rear with blood. After that, another Panther, under the cover of the smoke from the first tank, opened fire on the American position and moved forward. Under the fierce German joint attack, American Company I was forced to leave its position on Lagliz Highway and return to Stormont Town. Eight 76-mm guns of Company A of 823 Evacuate Tank Battalion held their positions to cover the retreat of infantry brothers. It was not until the German artillery destroyed one of the guns and all the officers and men who operated the other gun were killed that the company commander Captain Springfield ordered the destruction of the remaining guns and equipment and retreated to Stormont Town. In the fierce battle, the expulsion tanks destroyed several German armored vehicles many times, but most importantly, they bought valuable time for the US military to reinforce the Stormont defenders.
Captain Springfield led his troops back to Camp 823, and immediately received four 76 mm guns and two 40-type 75 mm anti-tank guns [[〔Pak 40〕]] seized from the Germans, and once again drove back to the front line for vigilance.
After retreating to the command post of 3rd Battalion of Stormont School, I Company held its ground and continued to resist the Germans. At the same time, two platoons of the 743rd Tank Battalion finally arrived in Stormont. With the support of M-4 Sherman tank of 743rd Battalion, Company I fought fiercely with the Germans in Stormont for two hours. However, they were outnumbered in the end. After destroying and wounding six German armored vehicles, the tanks of Company I and Battalion 743 were finally forced to leave Stormont. At that time, there were only 24 officers and men who could continue fighting in a row.
After the fall of Stormont, two other companies stationed outside the town were also forced to retreat with the first company to Tagono, the next town on Lagliz Highway. At this time, Colonel Shutelan, the head of the 1 19 regiment, sent company C of the reserve battalion to Tagono by truck for support, and ordered the 4th armored field artillery battalion to prepare for shooting as soon as possible. However, when backup company C arrived in Tagono, German tanks and nail infantry had arrived with the retreating American troops. Without heavy anti-tank weapons, Company C had to retreat to Stormont Railway Station behind Tagono with tanks of Company I, Company K and Battalion 743. These American troops retreated to the outside of Stormont Railway Station and found a suitable place to ambush the Germans at the corner of Leeds Highway in Goreli. The 90mm anti-aircraft gun that slipped from the roadside on the way to Stormont of the No.1143rd anti-aircraft gun battalion happened to be in this position. The officers and men in charge of gun operation saw that the trailer could not move, so they simply put the gun on the side of the road and held the corner. When the German vanguard troops arrived, artillery destroyed two Panther tanks and a semi-tracked personnel carrier. However, when the German infantry flanked the anti-aircraft gun position, the US troops were forced to destroy the 90 mm anti-aircraft gun and then retreat.
At this critical moment, American reinforcements finally arrived. It is the 740th tank battalion directly under the First Army. Due to the critical situation in Stormont, Lieutenant General Hebaozi, commander of the 30th Division, requested tank support from the 1 Army. At this time, he had just finished night combat training and needed to change clothes, so he was sent to a vehicle maintenance center in 〔Spring-mont〕 to get a new tank.
The 740th Tank Battalion found 19 repairable "inferior brand" M-4 tanks (five of which were amphibious tanks used in Normandy landing, and most of the others lacked parts or radios), an M-36 [90mm gun] expulsion tank, two M-24 light tanks and several self-propelled guns. After a night of repair and preparation, the 740th Tank Battalion completed its dressing-up and joined the battle ranks on the day of Stormont War. Just as the 743rd Tank Battalion and Company I and K were evacuated to Stormont Railway Station, the 740th Tank Battalion just arrived there. Due to the lack of radios in the tanks of the 740th Tank Battalion, the captains were forced to communicate with each other by signals. Captain Berry, the platoon leader, sent Captain Bowles' M-4 as the pioneer, followed by Sergeant Lupi's M-36.
When they got on Lagliz Expressway at 4 pm and went to Stormont Railway Station, it was dark and foggy, so the visibility was very low. Suddenly, at a crossroads, Bowles met a panther, the pioneer of the piper battle group. Bowers pre-empted the attack and hit the turret of the Panther with one shot. Originally, the short tube 75mm gun of M-4 Sherman tank could not penetrate the Panther armor, but there was a weakness in the front of the Panther turret. When the armor-piercing projectile hits the lower part of the Panther semi-circular gun shield, it will often be bounced into the cockpit of the car body. In this way, Bowles' first shot bounced on the car of Panther, killing two drivers and detonating the ammunition in the car.
When the second panther came out of the dense fog, Bowles also took the lead in shooting at it, but this time the armor-piercing bullet hit the armor diagonally in front and was bounced off. At the same time, Bowles' main gun was stuck and he could not shoot for the time being. Bowles immediately waved to the M-36 behind him and asked it to keep up with the Panther. The first 90 mm armor-piercing bullet fired by Sergeant Lupi hit the second panther and caught fire. Later, Lupi made up four rounds of armor-piercing bullets to ensure that the target was completely destroyed. After Bowles' main gun was destroyed, he continued to look for the target.
The third panther suddenly appeared from the fog, and Bowles made up another armor-piercing bullet. Bowers' gunner's shooting accuracy is really amazing, and the shell actually hit the Panther barrel directly. After losing the ability to fight back, the panther began to reverse the car and prepare to return to the dense fog. Bowers pursued the victory and ordered the gunner to aim at the road in front of the target. As a result, the 90 mm armor-piercing projectile bounced into the Panther-style car body from the hard road and caused it to catch fire.
These three Panthers represent the farthest point of the Piper battle group's westward journey. Because the troops couldn't find a bridge to cross the Ambley River, they couldn't move on, and the 1 17 regiment cut off the German supply line in Stavelot, so the Piper battle group was completely trapped in Laglitz town after the battle of Stormont. The only hope is that 150 armored brigade can get through the supply line again.
4. The hero is very sad.
Because the Piper battle group was blocked at Habimen on1February 18, the 150 armored brigade could not move to the bridge on the Moose River.
19, after Piper's battle group was trapped in Lagliz, the 150 armored brigade participated in the attempt to get in touch with the army. On1February 2 1 day, Colonel Ortus Gosseni was ordered to divide the150th brigade into three columns, two of which helped attack the US positions near Meldi and Stavelott respectively, and the third served as a reserve.
However, the German offensive "got off to a bad start". On the evening of 20th, a soldier of 150 brigade was captured by the US military. The American army learned from the prisoner that the Germans disguised as American troops would attack at 3: 30 the next morning. As a result, the 526th armored infantry battalion of the 29th 1 Battalion and the 1st1Battalion of the 20th Infantry Regiment under the 30th Infantry Division of the U.S. Army were all ready for battle. A column of the 150th CTS was covered by the 99th Infantry Battalion of the US Army on its way to the first train of the US Army. Thus, during the Second World War, a unique "masquerade war" was staged here.
The soldiers on both sides of this battle are wearing American uniforms, but the best thing is that most of them are not Americans! Of course, the soldiers of the 150 brigade are all Germans, while the officers and men of the 4th Infantry Battalion of the US Army are all Norwegians. It turned out that this American army was composed of Norwegian-Americans and Norwegians who fled to the United States after the fall of Norway, so it was also called the "Norwegian Battalion".
Shortly after the start of the war, the German Panther tank was wounded by the 76 mm anti-tank gun of the 823 expulsion tank battalion and withdrew from the battlefield. The infantry of 150 Brigade charged the Norwegian battalion crazily, but were retaliated by the Norwegian battalion's heavy machine guns and grenades, causing heavy casualties. At the same time, the "Norwegian Battalion" radioed the four artillery battalions of the 30th Infantry Division to bombard the Germans indiscriminately, and the infantry of the150th armored brigade fled the battlefield in a panic under the unprecedented violent air explosion bomb bombing. This is the first time that American artillery has been approved to use air-to-air proximity fuze. The US military's "secret weapon" allows the artillery to fire at the approximate target area quickly, without having to adjust the air explosion time of the fuze every time as before. After the shell reaches the target area, it will explode a large number of fragments at a specified height and shoot at the ground target. Under the unprecedented heavy bombardment of American howitzers, it is no wonder that the infantry of 150 brigade began to flee.
Two other columns of the 150 armored brigade, backed by nine tanks and assault guns, attacked the 1 20th Infantry Regiment1Battalion of the US Army stationed on the roads of Meldi and Sta Villot. After the German army broke through the barricade set by K Company of the 1st120th Infantry Regiment of the United States, it kept moving towards their goal-a bridge on ——Warche Creek. However, when crossing the roadblock of K Company, a German No.4 tank caught fire when it struck a mine, leaving only eight tanks to continue to move towards the target.
Although the U.S. military was ready for the battle, the 29th1Engineering Battalion still had no time to blow up the bridge of Vahit Creek because of the rapid action of the German army. Fortunately, officers and men of K Company tried their best to stop the German attack with light weapons such as rocket launchers near the bridge. The first disguised Panther that the Germans crossed the bridge was destroyed from behind by mortar observer Captain Snyder. From a factory near the bridge, two first-class soldiers of K Company, Cory and Ruchag, respectively hit the second disguised Panther turret with rocket launchers. The crew of this tank found that all the guns in the turret were destroyed and abandoned the car and fled. Currie pursues victory. He attacked three other tanks and assault guns with anti-tank grenades and rocket launchers respectively, forcing its occupants to abandon their cars. After that, Currie destroyed a house used by the Germans as a stronghold with a rocket launcher. Finally, the brave private first class shot down several Germans with machine guns and let five trapped comrades escape. Currie won the highest medal in the United States-"Congressional Medal of Honor" because he showed courage "beyond the requirements of his duties" in this battle.
Suddenly, the remaining vehicles of the 150 armored brigade were fired by 76mm anti-tank guns of the 823rd tank battalion on the highland across the Waxie River, and two German tanks retreated behind a brick wall. Seeing that it was now or never, the U.S. military took the opportunity to fight back, and even radioed two M- 10 expulsion tanks from the third expulsion tank battalion of the third armored division near Stavlot. These two M- 10 first destroyed the brick wall used by the Germans as a cover, and then destroyed the two German tanks behind them one by one. By the end of the battle in the afternoon, all the armored vehicles of the German armored brigade 150 were destroyed, and this special force that allowed the US military stopped its activities. The Piper battle group trapped in Lagliz finally gave up the defense line on1February 23 because it could not be replenished. After fierce fighting, only about 800 of the original 5000 officers and men in the Piper battle group escaped.
This is a saying that Pappu's battle group was relatively large in the Battle of Ardennes. As for Papp himself, 19 15 was born in a Prussian military family in Berlin.
1934 joined the ss, numbered 132496, and then joined the ss officer school. 1938 became the adjutant of Himmler's General Staff and the rank of SS Lieutenant.
1940 may 18 Germany won the iron cross first-class medal in the blitzkrieg in western Europe.
On June 22nd, 194 1, the Eastern Front fought against the Leibstandarte Division in Ukraine, served as the company commander, and was promoted to battalion commander on September 14.
1March, 943, he was promoted to the rank of major by the Order of Knights.
1943 achieved brilliant results in the battles of kharkov and kursk. He entered Italy in September, went to the Balkans in 10, and then returned to the Eastern Front. 1 1 In June, he was promoted to the head of the SS Panzer regiment 1 and won the Iron Cross of the Oak Knight.
1944 65438+ was promoted to SS Lieutenant Colonel on1October 30th, which happened to be his 29th birthday. During his break in western Europe, Piper was regarded as one of the most attractive and intimate commanders in the Waffen-SS.
In the Ardennes bloody battle at the end of 1944, the Piper battle group was the farthest German army. On February 28th, 65438 won the Knight Cross of Double Sword Oak, but the Marmedi incident made him infamous.
1February, 945, participated in the "Spring Awakening Plan". On May 8, he was captured by the US military, then tried and imprisoned for 10 years, and regained his freedom in 56 years.
1976 died in retaliation by the producers in France. As the ace commander, Colonel Achim Piper of the Waffen-SS fought to the end with a weapon.
Apart from a series of dazzling achievements, Piper is still very handsome.
