Guanghan Duck River in Jianjiang River
The section of the Jianjiang River in Guanghan City, Sichuan Province, is also known as the Duck River. It is named after thousands of migratory Anseriformes birds (commonly known as wild ducks) from the north spend the winter here every winter. The Duck River Wetland is one of the most important wintering grounds for various waterfowl in the Chengdu Plain. It is rich in number and species and has a unique and irreplaceable position in biodiversity protection and landscape creation.
According to the Chengdu Bird Watching Association’s observations of the Duck River Wetland from the winter of 2004 to the present, there are currently 66 species of waterfowl and 5 species of raptors in the area, belonging to 9 orders and 15 families. Among them, there is 1 species of national first-level wild animals: Chinese Merganser; 9 species of national second-level wild animals: white spoonbill, white-fronted goose, sparrowhawk, mandarin duck, common buzzard, short-eared owl, long-eared owl, peregrine falcon, Kestrel; 6 species of key protected wild animals in Sichuan: Lesser Pheasant, Black-necked Pheasant, Crested Pheasant, Cormorant, Marigold, Painted Sandpiper, Crane Sandpiper; Vulnerable species specified by IUCN (World Conservation Union): Painted-faced Duck, Near-threatened species: white-eyed pochard; CITES (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora) Appendix I protected species: peregrine falcon, Appendix II protected species: white spoonbill, painted duck, sparrowhawk, common buzzard. Four new species of birds in Sichuan Province are recorded here: white-billed loon, long-tailed duck, red-necked sandpiper, and fringed sandpiper. If you add in the water-loving birds and forest birds in the shrubbery and sparse woodland on both sides of the Duck River, there are more than 110 species of birds in the Duck River. However, some local residents have been fishing, raising poultry, and digging sand and quarrying here for a long time, which has caused obvious damage to the original aquatic ecological environment, reduced the food source of wild birds, and compressed the space for them to live and feed. , causing huge interference to their normal habitat and foraging behavior, posing a serious threat to the survival of these rare wild animals. In addition, the Duck River passes through the city of Guanghan. Various wintering birds inhabit and feed on the Duck River, creating a very unique urban ecological landscape and bringing a beautiful feeling to the general public and tourists to Guanghan. However, sand quarrying, poultry breeding, fishing and other activities have destroyed the original natural and harmonious atmosphere of Yahe River, which runs counter to Guanghan's goal of building an excellent tourist city in China. It has also affected the image of the tourism brand Sanxingdui Ancient Shu Cultural Site. .
