Liu Peiran (1922-November 18, 2014) was a native of Shenze County, Hebei Province. Famous director and film artist of Bayi Film Studio. Liu Peiran was born in Shenze, Hebei in 1922 county. In 1938, he was admitted to the Anti-Japanese War College in Jizhong. After graduation, he stayed in school and joined the Anti-Japanese War College Propaganda Team. Later, he joined the Struggle Drama Club of the 359th Brigade of the Eighth Route Army and arrived in Yan'an. In 1944, he participated in the first photography training class of the Yan'an Film Troupe to learn photography. After graduation, he worked in the Propaganda Section of the Political Department of the First Northeast Division and engaged in photography work. In the following years, he served as an actor, director, and leader of the military art troupe. In 1951, the famous director Cheng Yin selected Liu Peiran to play the role of Company Commander Zhang in the movie "Southern and Northern War". Under the guidance of two directors, Cheng Yin and Tang Xiaodan, and with a certain acting foundation, he successfully portrayed a real and simple Captain Zhang. After the film was released, it was well received by the audience.

In 1952, the Bayi Film Studio was established, and Liu Peiran was transferred to the Bayi Film Studio as the director and director, starting his film career. The first film he directed was the documentary "Heroes Who Save Lives and Heal the Wounded", which reflected the life-saving and healing work of health workers in the War of Resistance against U.S. Aggression and Aid Korea. The film won the second prize of the Ministry of Culture's Outstanding Film Award from 1949 to 1955. The first feature film directed by Liu Peiran independently was "Black Mountain Blockade" in 1956. Since he personally participated in this battle, the film was shot realistically and vividly. In 1958, Liu Peiran tried to make a comedy film. "The Legend of the Golden Bell" is a rural comedy film. Liu Peiran focused on exploring comedy elements from the plot and the characters' hearts, without sensationalizing. This also reflects his simple and truthful creative thinking.

In 1959, Liu Peiran adapted and directed "Lin Hai Xue Yuan" based on the novel of the same name. In the film, he used dramatic art expression techniques and gave full play to the flexibility of time and space in film art. The filming was natural and real, and in the film In terms of character creation, the "tall, big and comprehensive" expression mode of heroes is changed, and the heroic character Yang Zirong is shaped into a living character with flesh and blood, emotional changes and human touch.
