Compare the differences between Chinese painting and oil painting
The creation of traditional Chinese painting mainly uses pen and ink and pigments, which embodies the creator's understanding of nature, society, politics, philosophy, religion, morality, literature and art in content, thought and artistry. Its content is complex and diverse, according to the theme of painting, mainly figure painting, landscape painting, flower and bird painting.
Oil painting was born in Europe, so it is also called "Western painting". This is a painting created on linen, cardboard or wood with pigments mixed with oil. Oil paintings in different periods are dominated by the artistic concepts and techniques of the times, showing different faces.
The difference between Chinese painting and oil painting
Chinese painting and oil painting are very different in connotation and form, painting tools and materials, cultural beliefs and so on.
1. Compared with oil painting, Chinese painting is different from western painting in four aspects: poetry, calligraphy, painting and printing. The cultural background of the Chinese nation contained in the works is the biggest feature that distinguishes it from western painting art.
Conical brushes used in Chinese painting can be divided into soft brushes (including wool and double-stranded brushes) and hard brushes (wolf hair). Painting paper is special Xuan paper, and the pigment is mainly ink. There are many pens used in oil painting, but there are pencils, flat brushes and knives for scraping paint. She paints on canvas and linen, and the pigments are "oily mixed pigments".
2. The most important difference between Chinese painting and oil painting lies in the differences in the tools, colors, forms and connotations of the paintings created by the humanities, cultures, beliefs and natural environment. We orientals are elegant in character, and our painting style is mainly implicit, illusory and charming. Therefore, Chinese painting advocates the sublimation of perceptual nature, freehand brushwork and emotional expression. Westerners, on the other hand, are bold and unrestrained, and their painting style is mainly realistic, romantic and abstract. Therefore, oil painting tends to be realistic and rational, advocating realism (similarity) and paying attention to rational expression.
3. The main modeling method of Chinese painting is line, "line modeling" is the basis of Chinese painting, and line is the most direct and concise painting language and picture skeleton of Chinese painting.
Lines pay attention to tension and truth, express emotions through cadence, and express rhythm through smooth lines. The expressive force of lines between pen and ink has also become the basic basis for judging Chinese painting works.
The performance of oil painting mainly depends on light and color, and pays attention to the painting method with bright colors, strong three-dimensional sense and great aesthetic feeling.
Western oil painting evolved from egg-colored painting. Yang Van Eyck improved the materials and techniques of painting, and oil painting dishes were carried forward. With the further improvement of painting materials and techniques, it reached its climax in the Renaissance. Leonardo da Vinci and his masterpieces "Mona Lisa" and "The Last Supper", which are well known to women and children, are the models of western traditional oil painting in this period.
4. Chinese painting pays attention to "momentum" in the composition and layout of the picture, and makes the picture full of life by clarifying "subject and object" and integrating "reality". In creation, we advocate the spirit of free creation and the "natural" creative state. It can be said that Chinese painting is not limited by time and space, while oil painting strictly abides by the boundaries of time and space.
A successful painting, whether Chinese painting or oil painting, should be both interesting and tasteful, with both style and artistic conception. The creator of Chinese painting is from China, and the appreciator is from China, so China's aesthetic appreciation standard should be adopted. The creators of western oil paintings are westerners, and they should also adopt their own aesthetic standards.
