① The first floor ⑴: Summarize the similarities of Suzhou gardens: the beauty of pictures. The general feature of Suzhou gardens is "to ensure that no matter where tourists stand, there is always a perfect picture in front of them", that is, the gardens are "painting everywhere". This is the center of the whole paper, and "pictures" become the clue to introduce Suzhou gardens. The "perfect picture" is embodied in four stresses and one "everything": "Pay attention to the layout of pavilions, the coordination of rockery ponds, the foil of flowers and trees, and the level of close-range vision." Everything should be designed into a perfect picture. This is also the general outline and sequence explained below.

② The second floor (3-6): From four aspects, this paper expounds how Suzhou gardens embody the beauty of pictures in the layout and coordination of scenery. In the third paragraph, when introducing the layout, the architectural layout of Suzhou gardens is compared with ancient palaces and houses, which highlights the architectural characteristics of Suzhou gardens that do not pay attention to symmetry. In the fourth paragraph, through the image description of rockery pond, readers are deeply impressed by the picturesque poetic meaning of Suzhou gardens. The first sentence of paragraph 5 is the central sentence, and the second and third sentences sum up from the front that "focusing on painting" is planted. The fourth sentence explains "focusing on painting" from the aspects of pruning and planting. The fifth and sixth sentences illustrate the picturesque beauty of Suzhou garden trees. When introducing flowers and trees, compare with foreign gardens, and write China's traditional aesthetic view. The sixth paragraph mainly adopts the method of explanation, highlighting the ingenious design and arrangement, which can give visitors a sense of painting.

The first sentence is not only the central sentence of this natural paragraph, but also the general sentence of this level; It plays a connecting role in the structure. Then give a few representative examples to illustrate, "How many books are there with grass beside the steps?" This makes the things to be explained concrete and easy for people to understand and understand. The eighth paragraph explains that doors and windows are simple and ingenious; The ninth paragraph explains that the painting of Suzhou gardens is "ingenious". Compared with Beijing gardens, Suzhou gardens can give people a quiet and leisurely feeling, which is a beautiful picture. In a word, this layer is closely around the center of interpretation, which skillfully takes care of the sentence in the first paragraph, "Everything must exist to form a perfect picture, and it must not be detrimental to the failure of beauty."

The third part ⑽: the end. This explanation is a conclusion that cannot be ignored. Summarize the full text, once again arouse readers' strong desire to visit Suzhou gardens. It also makes the writing meticulous and memorable.

Creation background

This article is the preface written by Ye Lao for a Suzhou garden album. At the beginning of 1979, a publishing house in Hong Kong planned to publish an album introducing Suzhou gardens, and asked Ye Lao to preface it. Ye Lao lived in Suzhou until he was 22 years old. In his spare time, he often visits Suzhou gardens with friends, and he has a deep understanding of the tastes and characteristics of Suzhou gardens. In writing this preface, he referred to Suzhou Gardens edited by Professor Chen Congzhou.

The preface was written and handed over to the publishing house in Hong Kong, but the album has never been published. The editorial department of Encyclopedia Knowledge knew that Ye Lao had such an article and asked them to publish it first, so this preface was published in the fourth issue of Encyclopedia Knowledge 1979. The last few words of the preface were deleted when it was published. When People's Education Publishing House incorporated it into Chinese textbooks, it also deleted the first paragraph of the preface, and the original title "I am deeply concerned about Suzhou gardens" was changed to "Suzhou gardens".
