The legend of the origin of Huangshan:
Huangshan was called the "Capital of the Emperor" in ancient times because it is majestic, beautiful and mysterious. The residence of the Emperor of Heaven and the gods. By the Qin Dynasty, people also called it "Yī Mountain" based on its color. So, why was it later called "Huangshan"? It is said that it got its name because the Yellow Emperor once made elixirs here.
The Yellow Emperor, also known as Xuanyuan, is the leader of the tribal alliance. He led our ancestors to raise silkworms and make boats and carts. Time flies, Huang Di reaches old age, but he still has many things to do: rivers need to be managed, land needs to be cultivated, animals need to be tamed, etc. In order to live forever and do good things for the people, Huangdi sent Duke Fuqiu to find a place for him to make elixirs. Duke Fuqiu left for three years before returning and told Huangdi: "There is a group of high mountains in the south of the Yangtze River. They are called Yishan Mountains because they are mostly covered with black rocks. You can make elixirs there."
So Huangdi led Duke Fuqiu, Rong Chengzi and some of his servants came to Yishan, built a house with rocks, built an alchemy furnace, and then went to collect the herbs needed for alchemy.
There are seventy-two steep peaks in Yishan Mountain. Some places are difficult even for monkeys to climb, but Huangdi Xuanyuan walked on every inch of the cliff. Later, when the food they had prepared was gone, they had to rely on picking wild fruits to satisfy their hunger. Many people could not bear the hardship and ran away secretly. In the end, only Huangdi, Duke Fuqiu, and Rongchengzi were left.
After nine years of arduous searching, they collected all the herbs needed to make the elixir, dug a well and dug out the clear and sweet mountain spring, and then they began to make the elixir. Three years later, the firewood that had been prepared was almost used up, the elixir had not yet been refined, and the trees near the alchemy platform had been cut down. Duke Fuqiu and Rong Chengzi had to go far away to chop firewood, while Huang Di guarded the fire alone. Huang Di filled the last piece of pine wood into the furnace. Duke Fuqiu and Rong Chengzi hadn't come back yet. They saw that the fire was getting smaller and smaller. Once it went out, all the previous efforts would be wasted.
The Yellow Emperor put one of his legs into the furnace to use as firewood, and finally made the elixir. At this time, Duke Fuqiu and Rong Chengzi also rushed back and rescued Huangdi's legs from the fire. After the three people took the elixir, they were transformed and became immortals.
Because Yishan was the place where the Yellow Emperor made elixirs, people called it "Huangshan". Among the seventy-two peaks in Huangshan Mountain are Xuanyuan Peak, Fuqiu Peak and Rongcheng Peak named after three immortals. There are also alchemy wells and medicine mortars that they used when refining alchemy.
