Overview of the ancient town of Longtai Town, Guang'an District

The ancient town of Sichuan is the old town of Xinming County in the Song Dynasty. In the first year of Duanping in the Song Dynasty, some eminent monks traveled here and saw that Longfeng Mountain was surrounded by water on three sides and looked like a peninsula. So they built a platform and a temple at the head of Longfeng Mountain. The temple is built with carved beams and painted pillars, with flying dragons and phoenixes, and is majestic. It is called Longtai Temple. Xu Ren, the magistrate of Guang'an in the Ming Dynasty, once visited here. His poetry flourished and he composed a quatrain called "Passing the Longtai Temple". Here, people built houses and cultivated roads in front of the temple to form a neighborhood; they also built the Yu Palace and the Sanhuang Temple nearby. The Shaxi River passed through the street, and the Shidun Bridge crossed the river to connect the east and west. By the end of the Qing Dynasty and the beginning of the Republic of China, a 500-meter-long 500-meter-long building was gradually built. The old street, thus, Longtai Town was formed. The buildings in Longtai Old Street are of cantilevered-mountain-type structure, with small green tile roofs, mostly two-story buildings, balconies surrounded by carved railings, and well-proportioned layout of residential buildings. They are still strong and solid despite a hundred years of wind and rain. The streets paved with bluestones are still smooth despite the heavy traffic and traffic. What's amazing is that the Shaxi River flows through the streets, merges with the Dailong River in the territory, and then flows into the Qujiang River. As a result, Longtai Town has the scenery and charm of a Jiangnan water town. On both sides of the river, there are white walls and black tiles on one side, and green bamboos on the other. The courtyard is shaded by green bamboo trees. Women stand on the knee-deep bank of the river washing clothes. The sound of sticks and hammers mixes with laughter, and the river becomes alive. Some people were fishing on the clear shore, while children were chasing ducks and floating in the water. The scenery around Longtai Town is beautiful. The fields are flat, the houses are neat, and there are fertile fields, beautiful ponds, mulberry trees, and bamboos. Since ancient times, there have been "turtle terraces with greenery", "high caves with hidden dragons", "Westward Moon Watching", "cloud pools with late smoke", and "longshanzhi". There are six major landscapes: "Phoenix" and "Elephant Trunk Drinking from the Brook".

The long history and culture, beautiful natural scenery and rich cultural sceneries have created numerous talents and have made a mark in modern and contemporary China. Among these people are revolutionary martyrs, generals, professors, and scholars, making Longtai a hometown of celebrities. For example, Qin Bing, one of the seventy-two martyrs in Huanghuagang, Guangzhou, Yang Hanxiu, a martyr of the Chinese Communist Party in Zhazidong, Chongqing, and Yang Sen, a famous general of the Kuomintang, all came out of here and wrote their own different and colorful lives. In order to repay the kindness and nurturing of his hometown, Yang Sen built the Long (Taiwan) Flower (Qiao) Highway in 1931. Although it is only a short 8 kilometers, it is one of the earliest three roads in Guang'an. The following year, Yang Sen had a special liking for Longtai Temple, which is surrounded by mountains and rivers. He built two libraries in front of the temple with a collection of more than 100,000 books. He also opened up land behind the temple to build the Longtai Garden, and built the Longtai Garden on the left side to benefit women. There is a tennis court on the right side of the school and a sports field of more than 60 acres. The construction of these cultural and educational facilities has undoubtedly played a positive role in improving the cultural quality of the people in Longtai. In 1933, Yang Sen hosted the sports meeting of eleven counties in northern Sichuan at Longtai Stadium. A small town hosted a regional sports meeting instead of a county seat, which shows the social influence of Longtai at that time. The former residences of these celebrities are still there, and people can go there to pay their respects.
