Father and Son —— On the Understanding of the Relationship between Father and Son in Happyness

Text: Xu Daguo

The father holds his son's right hand in his left hand, his son's little head leans gently on his left arm, and his father bows his head. A dazzling light flashed in their tightly clenched hands. Their faces are full of happy sunshine. They, a happy father and son. This is a poster picture of the pursuit of Happyness. Looking at such a picture, I can't help feeling warm.

It is true that there are not many movies about the theme of "father-son affection", and many of them are touching. However, the movie Chasing Happyness is obviously penetrating. It has no trace of grandstanding, and the real atmosphere of returning to life naturally moves us. Of course, because Chris and his son are the real Smiths in the film, they are more sincere, simple and touching.

Garner Chris, a man who is over 30 years old, has gradually turned gray at his temples, but he is forced by life to run around. However, God seems to be against him. His life is so rough and poor that his wife Linda has no choice but to leave. "Send my son back!" Ghana begged his wife. It seems cruel for a husband to make such a request to his wife. But we clearly see that he and his wife have been deformed by the heavy life, and they have to show their pain and helplessness in life. A barrier has been set up between them. His son Topher Garner loved him deeply. The naive five-year-old son is Ghana's spiritual pillar.

I remember a passage in the film: after the father and son played on the basketball court, Ghana was earnest. One of the paragraphs goes like this: "Don't let others tell you that you can't become a talent, not even me. If you have a dream, you must defend it! No matter what others say! " This sentence is Ghana's encouragement to his son, and he has placed infinite expectations on his son. At the same time, this is also his monologue, hoping his agent dreams. He asked his son, "Trust me, okay?" Topher replied loudly, "I believe you!" " "The child's naive and firm voice calmed Ghana down. He tried to get affirmation of his value from his son, and as a result, he was satisfied. This is the infinite spiritual strength that the son gives to his father.

What impressed me most in the film was that the homeless father and son were sitting in a deserted subway station. At first, they looked after each other silently. Later, Ghana said the same thing as a madman, saying that medical equipment is a time machine. As a result, the father and son played a game of "crossing time and space" in the empty subway station: dinosaurs appeared in front of them, and the situation was dangerous. They had to find a cave to hide. But where did the subway station come from? Yes, that "cave" is a public toilet! Ghana spread a paper towel on the floor, and his son fell asleep next to him. They just curled up in front of the toilet. Looking at his sleeping son and listening to the sound of knocking at the door, the only thing he can do is to cover his son's ear with his hand and protect the child. Turbid tears slid over his uneven face, which was his guilt for his son-where is the responsibility as a father? It is the desire for happiness-where is the happiness that can be brought to my son? Such a scene is moving. Looking at Ghana's tears, I can't help but wet my eyes.

At the end of the film, both father and son laughed happily, beautifully and touching. In The Pursuit of Happyness, we can see the most sincere and touching feelings between father and son in a difficult and dependent life. "You have to trust me, okay?" "I believe you!" The repetition of this question and this answer has tied the lives of two people tightly together. They firmly believe that happiness will come at last.
