A native of Huaian, Jiangsu Province, he was born in Shanghai in 1939. He graduated from the Journalism Department of Fudan University in 1961.

In 1958, he became one of the first batch of television workers in my country and witnessed the development of Chinese television.

In 1959, he starred in China's first large-scale TV series "The New Generation". He has worked as an actor, editor, director, photographer, etc.

Since the 1980s, he served as the host of CCTV TV programs, hosting "Talk about the Yangtze River", "Talk about the Canal", "Wanli Sea Territory", "Sichuan Road", "Developing the Southwest", "Long March Five" "Ten Years·Song of Life", "Talk about Chinese Tea Culture", "Talk about Qinghai-Tibet Railway", "Talk about Macau", "Battle Classics" and many other large-scale TV programs and series, creating the first dual host of Chinese TV programs , among which "Talk about the Yangtze River" has created a miracle of crowds and a "myth" in the ratings of documentaries so far. During the live TV period in China, about 90% of TV dramas and cultural programs are produced, broadcast, and performed. He participated in the creation of the editing, directing and dubbing work for CCTV's translation productions, and recorded many popular film recordings, editing and commentary for China Central Radio. He retired in 1999.
