General situation of main news center

The main press center of Beijing 2008 Olympic Games is the headquarters for the registration of written and photographic media for the 29th Summer Olympic Games, and also the headquarters for the Games-time news operation of BOCOG. During the Olympic Games, MPC will face the future.

5,600 registered journalists from all over the world provide 24-hour facilities, information services and other related services.

Beijing MPC will also be used as the main news center for the 2008 Beijing Paralympic Games. The main facilities and services provided by MPC include:

Service Hall: There are a series of service desks and facilities, including main service desk, news desk, transportation service desk, newsstand, tourist information, bank, parcel delivery service and related technical support, such as shops, charge card service centers, journalists' studios, performance information services, rented office space (rooms), press release area, Kodak image center and photographer's studios, dining area, and media transportation hub connecting media stations and competition venues. MPC is located in the core of the Olympic Park, facing the International Broadcasting Center (IBC). It is convenient from MPC to seven competition venues, including National Stadium, National Swimming Center and National Gymnasium. It takes 10 minutes to walk to the Olympic Village. It is only 10 minutes' drive from the main media village.

MPC Building is a part of the supporting facilities of the National Convention Center, covering an area of 4.7 hectares with a total area of 260,000 square meters. MPC*** has three floors with a total area of 60,000 square meters. After the Olympic Games, the building will be put into use as a supporting facility of the National Convention Center. The National Convention Center will be used as an international broadcasting center during the Olympic Games.

The complex was delivered to BOCOG in February 2008. The temporary renovation of MPC will last for 2 to 3 months. MPC will be opened one month before the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games for news organizations to install equipment. Two weeks before the competition, MPC began to run 24 hours a day.

During the Olympic Games, two MPC media hotels located at the northernmost (A-star) and southernmost (D-star) of MPC will be used by registered media. Key personnel of news organizations and rights-holding broadcasters have priority when choosing MPC media hotels. Considering the security, transportation and tourists during the Games, the two media hotels will adopt the same policies as MPC.
