Evaluation of Fuji XF 1, a new machine of aristocratic retro nostalgia system

IT 168 compilation in recent years, major camera manufacturers have introduced one or two portable cameras with full manual function and capable of shooting RAW format every year. For those photographers who have used bulky SLR for a long time, these small and portable card machines are good backup machines. This kind of portable camera can be roughly divided into two types, one is a telephoto camera with additional functions, and the other is a small card machine. The S series produced by Canon in recent years is the representative of this kind of cameras, such as Powershot S 100. Recently, Sony has also introduced Cyber-Shot RX 100 camera and 1 inch sensor, which are quite excellent. Today, this type of camera has a new member.

Fuji XF 1. ▲ Fuji XF 1 Fuji XF 1 noble design.

XF 1 is Fuji.

X series

Its appearance also expanded the product line of Fuji's X system. XF 1 adopt? 2/3" EXR-CMOS sensor and EXR processing chip. The lens used in this camera is a wide-angle zoom lens with optical image stabilization function, with a focal length of 25- 100mm aperture F 1.8 and a telephoto lens aperture of F4.9 Compared with similar models, XF 1 has the best appearance. For example, Canon S 100 and Sony RX 100 all adopt that decent black body design, while XF 1 embodies more personality, which is suitable for photographers with the same personality at present. The color of this machine we evaluated is silver-red, full of vitality, the top and bottom of the fuselage and the lens are bright silver, and the rest are big red, and the material with rich leather texture is used. Obviously, this is a camera that looks fashionable in your hand, just like Fuji's advertisement claims? Looks good enough to feel good? . The XF 1 engineering machine evaluated this time is red, but Fuji actually provided it with three body colors.

consumer

Choose, at first glance, big red, bright brown, black, all three colors show leather texture. Another outstanding point of XF 1 is its lens system. Its zoom ring is manually operated like the lens of a SLR camera. It is worth mentioning that the zoom ring is the switch of the camera. This design was once embodied in S 100. The fuselage style of XF 1 adopts retro design, which is very suitable for nostalgia.

camera operator

. The design of manual zoom ring shows that this camera is for professional photographers. In addition, XF 1 also provides other practical function keys, including two manual wheel keys, an Fn key with customizable function at the top and a very useful E-Fn key, which can provide convenient expansion operation.

▲ Schematic diagram of E-FN key This camera provides Fuji camera's unique film simulation (simulation' colour modes-JPEG colour rendition), and also provides rich filter modes, such as? Toy camera? And then what? Selective color? . Of course, XF 1 also provides the full HD stereo camera function necessary for cameras now.

Fuji XF 1 camera main parameters:

12 million 2/3" EXR-CMOS sensor ISO 100-3200, ISO 4000-6400 (in 6 megapixel mode), ISO12800 (in 3 megapixel mode) 25-/kloc-0.

Fuji XF 1 equipped with EXR-CMOS sensor? Used in fuji X 10 and X-S 1. This photosensitive element, which is different from the traditional12 million pixels, has three different functions when used in cameras. One is to shoot120000 pixel image, the other is to reduce noise, and the third is to expand dynamic range.

Sensor frame comparison

The following figure is used to compare the 2/3-inch sensor of XF 1 with that of similar cameras. Generally speaking, larger photosensitive elements can provide higher quality images. The size of XF 1 is about half that of Sony RX 100 and twice that of Canon S 100.

▲ 2/3 sensor size comparison XF 1 is about half of Sony RX 100/inch sensor and twice of Canon S 11.7 sensor.

Blurred lens, photosensitive element and background

The following figure is a comparison of lens specifications and photosensitive element sizes of similar cameras such as XF 1 and Fuji X 10.

Camera users are usually concerned about whether the background blur is in place when shooting portraits. In this respect, Fuji XF 1 is slightly behind RX 100, but better than S 100.

Comparison of external dimensions

Because XF 1 is a manual zoom, it is slightly larger in appearance than competitors equipped with automatic zoom system. But this can't be said to be the shortcoming of XF 1, can it? It can still be conveniently put in your pocket, and at the same time, it can provide space for the use of two roulette keys.

▲ Fuji XF 1 and Canon S 100XF 1 are slightly larger in size and wider in fuselage. S 100 has a wider zoom range, but the photosensitive element is smaller than XF 1.

▲ Fuji XF 1 and Canon S 100 fuselage. However, S 100 is slimmer and more portable. We can see that the manual focusing of XF 1 is heavier than the autofocus lens of S 100.

▲ Fuji XF/KOOC-0/and Sony RX/KOOC-0/00 Although the sensor of Sony Cyber-Shot RX/KOOC-0/00 is twice as large as that of XF/KOOC-0/,its size is obviously larger. The fashion design of XF 1 is in sharp contrast with the other two cameras evaluated.

▲ Fuji XF 1 and Sony RX 100 are completely opposite from the top view. XF 1 is thinner than RX 100 when the lens is put away. ?

${PageNumber} Fuji XF 1 The fuselage design is extremely simple.

▲ The minimalist design of Fuji XF 1 fuselage parameters XF 1 imitates the style of the 1970s, with a silver top and a red fuselage, which is simple and fashionable. It feels quite comfortable when you hold it, because its body is imitation leather, which is more difficult to slide off than those cameras made of metal. There is also a wrist strap on the right side of the fuselage. Aluminum shell, light weight, looks strong and durable, and looks well-made.

The back of the camera is equipped with a 3-inch 460,000-pixel screen, and the buttons are concentrated on the right side of the screen. The camera has two thumb wheels, one on the top of the back of the fuselage and the other on the outside of the four keys. XF 1 also has a camera key to switch between photography and camera shooting. The E-Fn key is used as the shift key to expand the function.

Top design of fuselage

▲XF 1 Top The top of XF 1 is very neat, and there are only Fn keys, custom Fn keys and mode wheels on the upper right. And as you can see from this picture, the lens is completely retracted into the fuselage, making the machine quite compact.

Hold it in your hand and don't slide.

▲XF 1 Zoom ring design requires two hands to zoom XF 1. It feels very good, and its whole body leather texture design is more difficult to slide off than other similar cameras. The design of the back is just enough for one-handed operation, and the position of the camera key is just enough for the user to easily switch between photography and camera mode.

Manual ring zoom and telescope lens

XF 1 The most distinctive feature is the lens design. The lens can be manually retracted into the camera to save space. The lens has a manual zoom ring similar to a SLR camera, which makes it feel better when zooming.

In the telephoto part of the lens, we turn the lens slightly to the right, and then we can take it out until we see it. Standby (standby state) Then we continue to rotate the lens to the right until we reach the position of 25mm. At this point, the camera is turned on, and then we can continue to select the focal length within the range of 25mm- 100mm. This design makes the zoom quite flexible, and we can accurately find the focal length we need.

Fuji is proud of the lens design of XF 1? It uses six groups of seven lenses, including four aspheric lenses and three low dispersion optical lenses. Each lens group uses Fuji's unique broadband high transmission electron beam coating to minimize ghost and flash. The design of lens stabilizer is also very complicated, including four parts, because Fuji once claimed that the improvement of image quality should tend to use better stabilization technology.

When the lens is in standby position or retracted state, press and hold the play key, and we can browse the images on the LCD screen without opening the lens.

▲ Zoom Ring Zoom ring is made of metal and has convex and concave lines to enhance friction. There are several focal lengths of 25, 35, 50, 60, 80, 100mm to choose from. Zoom can be directly adjusted by manual zoom ring.

▲ Like other card machines, there is a protective device when the lens is retracted, and the protective device automatically closes to cover the lens. Focal length under different apertures

XF 1 Only the aperture value of the maximum wide-angle end is F 1.8. The following icons provide the maximum aperture at different focal lengths.

What is worth mentioning is the speed at which the aperture changes when the focal length changes. The F2.8 aperture provided by S 100 and RX 100 is at the same viewing angle, which is faster than XF 1/. Optional accessories? Leather camera cover

▲ holster All three color cameras are provided with a color matching camera holster, which is the same as the leather material of the camera body. The picture above is a picture of a holster. Of course, if you want to use three colors of leather case with three colors of XF 1, it is also a way to show your personality.

${PageNumber} noble Fuji XF 1 all parts of the fuselage.

There are fewer buttons on the top of the camera, including flash release button, Fn button (changing ISO by default) and a mode wheel.

The mode wheel provides two custom modes (C 1 and C2) and an Adv (creative filter) mode. Adv mode provides a variety of filter modes, such as panoramic mode, enhanced thematic focus mode and enhanced low-light shooting.

Upward dial is just suitable for right thumb control. Press it to achieve a specific function in a specific mode.

XF 1 has automatic auxiliary focusing LED lamp, which can help to achieve accurate focusing in dark conditions. This function can be turned off in the menu. When the DISP key is pressed for 2 seconds, the function can also be turned off, that is, there is no sound when the camera is focused and the flash is turned off.

The small flash is placed on the top of the camera, so it will not pop up automatically when it is needed to take pictures. It's just that there will be a corresponding prompt on the LCD screen.

The flash is controlled by the button in the figure, which automatically bounces back to the right after the button is dialed.

The stereo microphones of XF 1 are placed on both sides below the lens, where we can see two small black holes. This design makes it possible to record the shutter sound when the lens is zoomed and photographed in a very quiet environment.

The connection socket of XF 1 is placed next to the camera and has a protective cover. These include HDMI and USB/AV sockets. XF 1 does not provide a cable release socket for expanding the flash.

The battery and SD card are very traditionally designed in the same compartment. This machine uses Fuji NP50 battery (3.6V, 1000mAh, 3.6Wh), and Fuji X 10 also uses this battery.

The tripod interface is designed on the right side of the bottom, away from the battery compartment, so that when installing the tripod, it is not necessary to remove the tripod to install the battery or SD card.

The simple manipulation of ${PageNumber} Fuji XF 1 is impressive.

There are not many XF 1 buttons, which may be due to the small body. However, it provides good operability. The newly designed E-Fn key is the same as the shift key on the computer keyboard. After being pressed, six function keys can be expanded.

The machine we tested is not the final machine, and the final version may have some improvements.

Camera top control

▲ Fuji XF 1 The upper button is the shutter button of the top host, next to which is the customizable Fn button (the default setting is ISO) and next to the exposure mode panel. In addition to P file and C 1/C2 custom file, there is also an EXR mode that can directly access the low sensitivity and high dynamic range mode. The enhanced low-light shooting mode provides various filters. What else is there? Advanced? Panoramic shooting, multiple exposure and other photography modes.

Control keys on the back of the camera

▲ Back control key The control key design on the back of the camera is more traditional? Four control keys are surrounded by toggle rings, and four independent buttons are surrounded. Four control keys are provided directly, including exposure compensation function, time delay shooting function, flash control and macro mode. The flash function can only be adjusted when it is available. The menu/OK key is located in the middle of the four keys.

There is a play key above the four keys, a camera recording mode conversion key, and a DISP/ back key below.

Control the function of the turntable

XF 1 has two dials behind it. In most cases, their functions are the same. In manual focus mode, the lower dial is used to adjust the aperture and the other dial is used to adjust the shutter. If you use manual exposure and manual focusing, the dial below is used to set the focus.

▲ Parameter Click the wheel above to change its function to aperture or shutter speed. If setting exposure compensation, then you need to hold down the upper four keys, and then rotate the dial, or press the up and down keys to adjust.

E-Fn button

Without reference to the design of X-PRO 1 and X-E 1, Fuji's XF 1 designed a new E-Fn button. When this button is pressed, the functions of other keys will be temporarily changed, and the changed functions will be realized on the screen. In addition, the E-Fn key of XF 1 can also customize the extended functions of other keys.

After pressing the E-fn key, the control function as shown above will be displayed on the screen.

Press and hold one of the keys, press and hold the right key here, and the function will be displayed on the left side of the screen.

The menu in the picture on the left allows you to set the function of each button.

This list on the right provides an optional button setting function. Is it easy to understand? The same setting menu applies to the setting of Fn key.

$ ${ page number} Fuji XF 1 Real-time Parameter Display Simulation Animation Design

XF 1 retains the same display options as X-series real-time views, including deep customized detail views, including electronic level and real-time histogram. , and added a complete parameter view option as the default option. When you change the settings in real time, you can display the exposure parameters or enlarge the image. ▲XF 1 provides a new recording mode as the default choice, including aperture, exposure compensation, ISO, etc. ? ▲ The animation analog dial will change in real time with your adjustment ▲ The focal length display is below the picture ▲ The real-time parameters such as focal length and nine squares can be deeply customized, and the number of display parameters depends on your own needs ▲ The focus is in a 7X7 grid, and 49 autofocus points can be manually selected. There are five specifications for autofocus area selection (the picture shows the medium-sized autofocus area).

▲PAS mode real-time parameters In PAS mode, XF 1 will adapt to the final exposure effect and complete the live view display together with the histogram.

menu

Menu system is one of the major improvements of XF 1. It adopts the same menu design as X-Pro 1, and adopts Fuji's more modern design. The related options are concentrated in the submenu, and the simple hierarchical menu design is easier for people to get started.

(left) The menu with the same design as X-Pro 1 is novel and far superior to the previous designs of X series.

(Right) Related function options are integrated in the submenu, which makes the main menu concise and clear. The picture above shows the menu selection for camera shooting. The first time I met XF 1 was written at the end.

The appearance of XF 1 provides a retro card machine similar to X 100 for consumers to choose from, but its more fashionable appearance makes it unique and may lead a trend. The retro appearance of a fashion trend combined with excellent picture output quality is the overall impression of this camera, which is impressive.

XF 1 uses the same EXR=CMOS sensor as X 10, so we expect its imaging ability to be the same as the latter. Under the condition of 6 million pixels (pixel size perfectly printed on A4 size paper), its high-sensitivity imaging range is beyond the reach of other similar machines. Thanks to Fuji's excellent JPEG processor, the camera simulates color mode (film simulation? Provia/standard, Velvia/Vivid, Astia/Soft) and a variety of monochrome modes to choose from. XF 1 used in this evaluation is an engineering machine with impressive fast focusing characteristics? This is a short board in Fuji's previous cameras. The buttons on the back of the camera are reasonably designed and easy to operate. The newly defined E-Fn button is really a pretty good design, through which some operations can be completed quickly. Fujifilm has gradually adjusted the X series, and obviously the design of XF 1 is better than before. This is all the evaluation content this time, and I hope it will help you buy the machine.
