What subjects do American high schools study?

American high school courses and credits are: English 4, Social Studies 4, Mathematics 3, Science 3, Health .5, Art 1,

Foreign Language 1, Physical Education 2, Elective 3.5, with a total credit of 22.

Social studies means all liberal arts courses except English, and science means all science and engineering courses except mathematics. Credits are usually one credit per year and half a year.
