The white pelican, a national first-level protected wild animal, reappears in Caofeidian, Hebei Province. What do you know about this animal?
The white pelican is a pelican of the family Pelicanidae, weighing 7 to 14 kilograms, with a long and flat beak, a narrow base, a large throat, a hook and beak armor on the top of the beak, light pink feathers, large and Broad wings, with a long, narrow crest behind the head.
There are light yellow feathers on the chest and throat. Exposed areas of the cheeks and eyes are yellow. There are webs between the toes and complete webs on the toes. They are gregarious and live in coastal areas, lakes and rivers. During the breeding season, they often build nests near water and in trees, laying 1 to 6 eggs at a time. The eggs are hatched through sexual intercourse between a man and a woman. Chicks are late adults. Adult birds often feed their young with semi-digested fish from their esophagus and crops. China is distributed in Qinghai, Xinjiang and Fujian. It is a national second-level protected animal.
In recent years, China has increased financial expenditures to protect wetlands. All regions also do a good job protecting wetlands. The ecological environment has been restored, attracting more birds to live here. The photographer captured two pelicans in the Caofeidian Wetland Bird Nature Reserve in Hebei Province. After receiving the news, the Provincial Forestry and Grassland Bureau immediately arranged relevant personnel, and after verification by field experts, it was confirmed that the two birds were national first-class wild protected white pelicans. This is the second discovery of this species since the species was discovered in the reserve on August 23 this year, which also proves that the environment of the wetland reserve has been significantly improved.
Mainly feed on leaves, stems, buds and roots of plants, and sometimes insects. Distributed in Yunnan in northwest China, southeastern Tibet, northeastern India and northeastern Myanmar. Due to its large size, slow movement and regular activities during the day, the white-tailed rainbow pheasant is easily hunted by humans and natural enemies. With its population declining, it has been included in the IUCN Red List of Endangered Species and the National List of Key Protected Wild Animals. Pelicans were once a common bird in northwest China, and Baidi Lake played an iconic role in the ecological environment.
With the frequent human activities and the shrinking of natural ecology, the number of wild animals is very rare. Baidi Lake will be included in the list of national key protected wild animals and become a national first-level protected wild animal. The appearance of two white pelicans in Caofeidian Wetland once again proves that the local ecological environment has been effectively improved.
