How was the photo taken with a black background?

When we use spot metering to measure the brightness of the picture, the camera metering system will think that the brightness of the photo is on the bright side, so it will dim the light to reach the reference value, making the brightness of the shot photo darker than the actual one. This is the same as when we take a silhouette photo and point the light in the bright part of the sky, which will easily form a silhouette effect. So we can measure the brightness of the subject, such as flowers, by spot metering, which can make the exposure of the subject relatively accurate. Secondly, in order to make the shooting background darker and blacker, we also need to adjust the shooting angle to give priority to the dark background, so that these dark backgrounds can be darkened by spot metering, and there is a better chance to form an all-black background. Finally, if we think that the bright part of the photo background is not dark enough, we can also darken the background by reducing the exposure compensation or reducing the brightness of the shadow later.

If the first step is troublesome, we can put a black cloth or a black umbrella right behind the subject and then measure the light on the subject by spot metering. If necessary, we can reduce the exposure compensation to complete shooting on a black background.

It is not complicated to shoot black background with props such as black cloth, and the operation is relatively simple. It is more suitable to shoot portraits in the shed and flowers and leaves outdoors, which is a very effective way to shoot black background.
