How to give full play to side light in portrait photography?
Silhouette light is a kind of light from the back or side of the subject, just like backlight in natural light. According to the actual shooting needs, this light may sometimes be positive backlight, sometimes it may be side backlight, and sometimes it may be high backlight. Side light shows the three-dimensional visual effect of the subject to determine the hierarchical relationship between the main light and the side light. In a successful lighting combination, the application of side light should not be too bright, too bright or the brightness jump of light is too large, which will destroy the overall light consumption, and the incident angle of side light should not be too large. In some programs, contour lights are fixed on scaffolding and cannot be lowered, resulting in high contour light consumption and wide contour lights for many characters. If it is higher than the shoulders and heads of the characters, it will probably become the top light, which will easily reduce the effect of side lighting. The angular position of side light should be accurate, mainly placed at the back or side of the subject, and the position should not be changed to the back or side at will, which will easily destroy the lighting effect of other lamps, and sometimes there will be light clamping between side light and main light. Sometimes, several or more side lights can be used at the same time in order to emphasize the lighting effect of side lights or when there are many people in the scene. The silhouette lamp should be reasonably matched with other lighting components, otherwise it can only receive silhouette and semi-silhouette effect.
