What does MU-A mean?
Optical fiber connector is a detachable (movable) connecting device between optical fibers, which accurately connects the two end faces of optical fibers, so that the optical energy output from the transmitting optical fiber can be coupled into the receiving optical fiber to the maximum extent, and the influence of its intervention in the optical link on the system is minimal, which is the basic requirement of optical fiber connector. To some extent, optical fiber connectors also affect the reliability and performance of optical transmission systems.
According to different transmission media, optical fiber connectors can be divided into common silicon-based optical fiber single-mode and multimode connectors, and other optical fiber connectors with plastic as transmission media; According to the connector structure, it can be divided into FC, SC, ST, LC, D4, DIN, MU, MT, etc. Among them, ST connectors are usually used for wiring equipment, such as optical fiber distribution frames and optical fiber modules. SC and MT connectors are usually used on the network equipment side. According to the shape of optical fiber end face, there are FC, PC (including SPC or UPC) and APC. According to the number of optical fiber cores, there are single core and multi-core (such as MT-RJ). Optical fiber connectors are widely used and varied. In the process of practical application, we generally distinguish optical fiber connectors according to their different structures.
(7) MU connector
MU (Micro Unit Coupling) connector is the smallest single-core optical fiber connector in the world, which was developed by NTT on the basis of the most widely used SC connector at present. The connector adopts a sleeve with a diameter of 1.25mm and a self-retaining mechanism, which has the advantage of realizing high-density installation. NTT has developed a series of MU connectors by using the l.25mm diameter sleeve of MU. They have socket connectors (MU-A series) for optical cable connection; Backplane connector with self-retaining mechanism (MU-B series) and simplified socket for connecting LD/PD module and plug (MU-SR series). With the rapid development of optical fiber network in the direction of greater bandwidth and capacity and the wide application of DWDM technology, the demand for MU connectors will also grow rapidly.
