The difference between Hongcun and Xidi
Hongcun and Xidi are the two most famous Huizhou villages at the foot of Huangshan Mountain. Although they are quite similar in architectural style, there are still great differences in cultural style and travel experience, each with its own personality and exquisiteness.
First, choose Hongcun for scenery and Xidi for culture.
1. The beauty of South Lake and Moon Marsh in Hongcun can rank first among all the scenery in Huicun. White wall tiles, red lanterns, green trees, reflections in the water and continuous green hills look like a China ink painting. In Hongcun, every step is a scene. In contrast, Xidi seems to be more regular and ordinary. On the landscape, Hongcun is more like a complete ink painting; The essence of Xidi lies in the details of single building. Xidi's buildings are taller, grander and more exquisite, and can tell more stories.
Xidi was built in the Northern Song Dynasty and Hongcun was built in the Southern Song Dynasty. Comparatively speaking, Xidi has a longer history. Many of Xidi's sculptures have rich connotations, and every household's couplets have their own opinions. And these interesting historical stories can be learned as long as you keep up with the tour guide. Hongcun also has ancestral halls, courtyards and academies to visit, but the total number is not as much as Xidi.
3. There are more than 140 ancient dwellings in Hongcun and more than 200 in Xidi. There is Wang's ancestral hall in Hongcun, Hu's ancestral hall and Hu's family temple in Xidi. Xidi still retains the old building at the entrance of the village.
Second, look at the panoramic view of the village, go to Hongcun, visit the essence of architecture and give it to the west.
1. In Hongcun, ponds and houses form a perfect echo, and cattle intestines and pools are all over the village. Hongcun is in the shape of a cow, South Lake is like a cow's stomach, and the canal connecting the whole village is like a cow's intestines, so the canal is also called a cow's intestines puddle. The collocation of mountains, water and houses in Hongcun village is more subtle. The west dike is boat-shaped, with narrow ends and wide middle, and the hull is densely populated with houses.
2. One of the architectural features of Huizhou school is Huizhou three carvings: brick carving, stone carving and wood carving. As for what to carve, they are very particular. For example, lions represent authority, officials will carve lions at home, peonies represent wealth, and businessmen value financial resources more. In Xidi, officials, businessmen, private schools, ordinary houses, gardens, ancestral halls and other different forms of courtyards can be visited, and there are many sayings everywhere. Of course, this does not mean that Xidi is not beautiful, and Hongcun cannot understand the culture behind the building. Only Hongcun has better scenery, which may be more suitable for people who like painting and photography, while Xidi is more suitable for people who are keen on studying architecture and history and culture.
Third, love the lively selection of Hongcun and enjoy the quiet selection of Xidi.
1. If the above is just an inconspicuous difference between the two places, it will be too obvious. Hongcun is rich in nightlife, the restaurant is open until nine or ten o'clock, and there are many lively bars singing constantly. At 9 o'clock in the evening, there are still many tourists shooting night scenes in front of Moon Bay, and the stalls and shops in the commercial section of the main street have also formed a brightly lit night market scenery.
2. In Xidi, it is a completely different scene. Apart from the water curtain movie at eight o'clock, there is little entertainment in the evening. At seven or eight o'clock, the shops began to close and the streets became deserted. Even the most lively place in the village at night, that is, a small bar, can still feel the popularity there, the complicated and tortuous streets and lanes, and even make people a little scared by the dim street lights at night. We had dinner in the old ancestral temple of the inn and talked with the boss all night.
Fourth, when the tourism is mature, go to Hongcun, and return to the west as it is.
1, if the visual difference is not absolute, then the feeling of travel experience is really different. Hongcun has popular restaurants, cafes for internet celebrities, high-end hotels and homestays, post offices for sending postcards, bars for entertainment at night, and famous baked wheat cakes and tofu that can be taken home by hand. Hongcun has all the elements that an ancient town can think of in an online celebrity.
2, Xidi feels much simpler, and there is a sense of comfort here. No matter in the morning or at night, it's quiet here. Unlike Hongcun, where half are foreigners, Xidi is still dominated by indigenous people and their descendants. Of course, with the original ecology, there is no particularly delicious restaurant. There is a kind of "expensive" 1 cent milk tea, the packaging and taste are very cottage, and there are no rich activities and places to go at night. But it is also the case that Xidi is closer to nature.
