High energy! Draw realistic hair with PS

Detailed graphic tutorial, you can follow it step by step, be careful.

Let's start;

1. Know your brush.

We can't start painting these pictures without arming ourselves with the right tools first. And in order to draw numbers, I will use Wacom Intuos 3 to draw the board. There are many options on the internet, and it may be difficult to know which one to choose. Let me tell you briefly that you already have an incredible brush waiting for you in Adobe Photoshop CC.

Just press F5 on the keyboard to bring up the brush panel. Click the brush head preset, and then select from the list of brushes provided to you.

Hard round opaque brush

The main brush I will use is my favorite hard round opaque brush. Because of its faded edges and dependence on the sensitivity of the pen, this brush is versatile enough to draw our sketches and describe elegant hair textures.

Dry brush

The second brush I need is a dry brush. In order to achieve super-realistic effect, it is always good to add a little gravel and texture to the work. Later, I will use this brush to help rough and curly hair regenerate.

Use photo reference

Many beginners will make the mistake of collecting references for the first time. They saw their favorite artists join in, so they thought they should follow their leader.

Reality takes time, so don't rush it. There is no better way to understand the performance of things in real life than to learn photography. Professional artists will spend thousands of hours painting, reproducing and studying some lighting conditions in order to be more familiar with common scenes than ordinary people.

I will use these four photos to help guide me:

Do you want to draw or draw?

There's always an argument about stalking. I know it looks like cheating, but it's just practice. I don't want your painting ability to feel other great skills. So, even if you don't have confidence and feel that you "can't draw", I guarantee that you can still draw with it. You can get the sketch you need by tracing it on the image.

3. Understand the layer blending mode

Drawing on layers set to different blending modes can save working time in Photoshop. This is the process I will use to draw each hairstyle. I don't always follow this order, but I definitely set it to normal from the layer.

normality

Set the canvas document to 300 dpi to ensure high-resolution painting. For the initial sketch, you should always use the "normal" blending mode to fill the basic colors and general paintings.

subdued light

Is your sketch annoying? Dark black lines don't always look the biggest, especially if your sketch is a bit confusing. In order to blend your sketch with the colors you draw perfectly, please set the blending mode to soft light. Adjust the opacity according to your own preferences, and the realistic effect will be greatly different.

Diverse

Every time you need to use a different blending mode, add a new layer.

Layers set to positive should always be used for shadows, so you don't have to rummage in the color selector. Just hover the brush over the area where you want to place the shadow, and then hold down the Alt key. This will select the color from this area and automatically multiply it to get a darker result.

involve

Whenever I think of covering, I think of light. On the layer set to overlay, you can draw warm colors and cold lights to illuminate your hair in a way that simulates natural lighting. However, be careful with this mixed mode, because you may overdo it.

Linear Fading (Add)

Create a new layer for linear fade and immediately add highlights to your hairstyle. All the nearby colors you have to use, you choose with the eyedropper tool (E).

Now that you know the process I usually use to draw hair, let's try some different hairstyles.

4. How to draw short straight hair

Step 1

Say a simple "bob" first. Cut your hair short to ensure that you have a figure and exercise. Paint some dull colors on the new layer and set the sketch to soft light.

Second step

Add a new layer and set it as an overlay. Where the sun shines on the hair, bright yellow is used to describe the radiance. This will cause dark brown hair to turn into a warm shadow.

Third step

Set a new layer and shade your hair with the same brown color as the background color. If your painting starts to look a little speckled, clean it up and make sure that your brush hardness is 100%.

Fourth step

Continue to draw more strokes with smaller brushes. Let your references guide you until you are confident enough to try it yourself.

Step five

Work in the shape of hair. Add slender hair strands to show more movement, and then soften the edges with white or slight erasure. Including a fast blue-collar character.

Step 6

Fill all other layers with a linear gradient of blue.

Step 7

By setting a new layer to linear dodge (add). Draw the remaining highlights on this layer with a brush of 1-5 pixels. When finished, this is a short and straight hairstyle.

5. How to draw straight bangs?

Step 1

The hairstyle we are going to deal with next is still straight hair, but this time it is bangs. Draw your sketch, paying special attention to Liu Hai's forehead.

Even if your hair is dark, choose a lighter background color than you think. Draw them on a new layer and change the blending mode of the sketch to soft light.

Second step

Let's add some shadows. Set a new layer to overlay, and draw the darkest shadow first. Try to keep the shadows soft and let the grass roots peep.

Third step

Use layer group overlay to draw warm light on the outer edge of hair.

Fourth step

Fill the background with beautiful peaches. Draw more details of hair by experimenting with colors and using a small brush to imitate hair bundles. Even if this is a hairstyle, there should still be some movements.

\

Step five

Keep working on your hair. When you are ready to highlight, add a new layer and set it to linear dodge (add). Draw the last bright spot and add the light of bangs. This is the final result.

6. How to draw wavy hair

Step 1

Now I'm drawing wavy hair, which can break the structure of curly hair. Study how to curl and twist together, and draw hair pieces to understand how to curl and curl. In most cases, this simple "S" shape will become the basic curve of hair.

Second step

Draw a background color for your wavy grass. Set the sketch to soft light, and then start drawing shadows on the new overlay.

Third step

Generally speaking, the process of straight hair is the same. Continue to draw more shadows before drawing highlights on the new layer for linear shading (adding).

Fourth step

To complete this look, add a brown linear gradient to the background. Highlight again with a small brush. In order to get the texture down, make yourself a mess, because curly hair is not so tame.

7. How to draw rough curly hair?

Step 1

The last hairstyle is rough curly hair. This is a typical national hairstyle with rich texture, but it needs more steps than the previous hairstyle.

Start sketching like a hard round brush.

Second step

Draw a basic color, but this time use a linear gradient from blonde to hair. This gradual change will help us to know more about how to layer hair. Then set the sketch layer to soft light.

Third step

Try to imagine how different layers of hair are distributed on your head when you focus on the shadow. The color will change according to the dyeing operation. In this case, the original reference has an "ombre" hairstyle, so you need to try different colors on the new layer to overlay and overlay.

Fourth step

As a woman with wild curly hair, I am very familiar with its texture. But in order to draw it, you must include other brushes.

Use the previous dry brush texture. Dry combing will simulate the frizzy nature of Africa, so make sure that the texture is distributed throughout the hair.

Step five

Continue to expand the curly texture of hair. These curls are very different from wavy curls, so wavy lines are used to simulate tight curls.

Step 6

Put your hair on a pink background and add warm light to let it flow out. Set the layer to a linear gradient (Add) to add bright spiral curls that look like jumping forward.
