As the snack capital, where is the most authentic snack in Penang?

When you experience food in Penang, you will find that the most authentic shops are not decorated very much, and the restaurants are somewhat similar to the domestic food city. Generally, shops mainly sell coffee and water, and then rent the places in the shops to those who make snacks, such as grilled fish, fried rice noodles and kebabs. ...

In this way, the store only needs to sell coffee and water, and the rest of the food is left to the small bosses at various stalls to work by themselves. If you want to attract old customers (the shops here are often decades or even hundreds of years old, so most of them have to be taken care of by old customers), you have to work hard on the taste and quality of food, otherwise this stall will be replaced by better people.

Below each signboard is a rental booth, which generally receives RM 200-300 a month. There are differences in the stalls in the whole store to ensure the diversity of the store.

At the same time, because the owner sells water and coffee, many stores have written that they need some water to drink, otherwise they will charge extra service fees. Because there are many stalls in every store, the stall owner is responsible for cooking, paying the bill and running errands, and so on. The monthly salary of Junior 2 is generally above 1000 ringgit, equivalent to more than 2,000 yuan. Generally, after ordering, Xiao Er will be given the corresponding money when serving. There is basically no habit of tipping here.

coffee

Coffee is especially common in Penang. Just like drinking ice-cream soda in Xi 'an, coffee is sold in casual restaurants and breakfast stalls on the street. The coffee that Penang locals drink is mainly made from kopiO.

Black coffee without brewing.

Coffee black

On the contrary, tourists usually buy more white coffee while locals drink less.

All kinds of coffee mentioned above are made of black coffee. Kopi O, no milk. When you want to add the freezing point list, just say "KOPI O ice". If there is sugar and milk, say KOPI, KOPI ice. Because Penang is sultry, we usually order "KOPI ice".

Coffee is generally affordable in Malaysia. General coffee is 1.5 RM, and ice or milk is almost 1.8 to RM 2. The local coffee shops in Penang are not as well decorated as those in China, but the coffee tastes good.

On the left is KOPI Susu ice (with milk), and on the right is KOPI O ice.

Besides coffee, there is another kind of drink that is delicious. I haven't seen the specific name, and the pronunciation is plum blossom. There are two salted plums in it, and the drink is made of "Umbrella Plum" pulp.

Ambra acid Meilinge around 2.5 yuan.

Ambra sour plum

Teh tarik and teh tarik are on the Malay menu. Teh corresponds to tea, Tarik corresponds to pulling. Word order is contrary to domestic customs.

Indian breakfast, teh tarik in the lower left corner. Toast is in the upper left corner, and sugar and eggs are soaked in the cup on the right. I feel that the egg is half baked and the bread is dipped before I drink the rest. Must adapt

Let's write down the food according to the location, otherwise it will be chaotic.

Songhua River Catering Address Huashu Road

This shop is not far from my hotel, and the white building behind it is the Evergreen Laurel Hotel. On the left side of the street is a new beach reclaimed from the sea.

Teik and his good friend Peter, who accompanied me to dinner this time, are frequent visitors to this store, and most of them know each other. You can order sour plums here. More often, I come here in the evening to ask for a pot of tea (the quality of tea in this small shop in Malaysia is really not flattering, it is all imported from China, and there is no good tea), and then I sit down and chat. Sometimes I drink beer here after dinner.

Malaysia is a country dominated by Islam, so the price of wine is very high, a bottle of beer 14 ringgit. I happen to know the agent of this brand of beer in Penang, and I invited him to eat a meal this time.

The business of this grilled fish stall is very good. Fish is roasted with seasoned banana leaves, and it doesn't start cooking until 9: 00 every night, but basically every day before the boss comes, people are waiting in line. The first photo is from this grilled fish shop. The boss has just come to sort out the ingredients inside, and the food hasn't been served yet. There are already three people waiting outside.

There are ice cubes below and fish above.

chicken claw

The chicken feet in the shop should be Fujian-style, with black sauce, which melts in the mouth and tastes very good. I can't find the photo. I ate it twice in a hurry and didn't take pictures.

Bakute Tea Location: Jalan Birch is just next to the Songhua River restaurant above and close to my hotel. Teik is also a frequent visitor here.

Baku-gu-cha is a traditional Chinese medicine. Many China people used to come to Malaysia to dig tin and gold mines. Soaking in the water all day, the cold is very heavy. A mine manager who knows a little about medical skills chose several kinds of Chinese medicines himself, and let the chef and ribs cook them for the workers to drink to drive away the cold. Later, it gradually became popular, and the medicinal materials added were different.

Baku-Gucha rice tastes good. With small green pepper, red pepper, garlic paste, soy sauce and oil consumption, I feel sweaty. The next two striped bottles are soy sauce and fuel consumption (probably fuel consumption, very thick)

Bones and soup are put in their own bowls. The soup is gone, so you can let Xiao Er add soup (free of charge).

Soon the wind swept away and the meat grew out like this. A pot of tea is also RM 3, so you'd better bring your own tea next time.

Business hours don't start until 5: 30 pm, and it's still crowded at night.

India breakfast stall

Venue: 58-56, Jalan Transfer

Thanks to the signboard of the winery when I took this photo, I found this place, and there is a street view on Google Maps. Check it!

When I first arrived, there were few people in the open air, but this was an Indian breakfast that Teik took us for more than 20 minutes. Except for eggs, it tastes good.

Rice is wrapped in plastic paper and covered with newspaper. This kind of rice can be seen in many places in Penang. The sauce on it is shrimp, pepper, fish and curry.

Three people each served rice and coffee, also called teh tarik.

I also ate this bread, dipped in sugar and the eggs in the picture below.

Northam Beach Cafe Nuodeng gourmet restaurant suggests that it is better to go at night, and the restaurant is close to the sea.

Location: Tikus Island, Ahmed Shah Road, Sudan

As you can see from the map, this restaurant is next to the sea. At night, it is very pleasant to sit in a seat near the sea, blowing the sea breeze and looking at the night view of the North Sea opposite.

Many dishes here are served with dipping sauce and pepper.

This kind of screw tastes good.

Shadia (barbecue)

When the shell is finished, you won't open your mouth, and it takes skill to break it. There are raised dots on the shell, and the nails can be pulled apart.

The coffee here is very good, Kopi ice. Plum plums can also be ordered here.

Penang Times Square

Venue: Suare 144 Penang time, Jalandato Keramat, Georgetown, 10 150 Georgetown, a newly-built food city, which is very big and open during the day, but seems to be closed at night, and there are many kinds of food in it.

A large plate of smoothies, 5 yuan, equivalent to RMB 8 yuan.

Penang Times Square also ordered Lesha, which is made of rice noodles, green peppers, onions and lemon juice. The soup is very sour and has a good effect of relieving summer heat.
