But with the development of technology, it seems that in the past we thought it must be a "dog head" lens, and now there are some good quality lenses. Should our cognition also keep pace with the times?

Different from other 24- 105 or 24- 120 lenses, Sony's SEL24 105G is black and white, giving people a sense of advanced at first sight. Take a closer look at this. Let's find out.

▲ When I first started using SEL24 105G, my first feeling was that the lens size was appropriate and the grip was good. The lens weighs 663 grams, which is one of the lenses of its kind, if not the lightest.

▲ On the side of the lens, there is an iconic round custom key of Sony lens.

▲ The end of the lens is a metal bayonet. Of course, a dust-proof and drip-proof rubber ring is also necessary.

A lens like 24- 105 is sometimes used for indoor conference photography besides scenery and tourism. Therefore, for the requirement of resolution, we must first have a full aperture. Whether it can be done or not, let's take a look at it through real shooting.

We tested the resolution of this Sony SEL24 105G by capturing a screenshot of 100% magnification. The camera used for testing is Sony's latest and highest pixel body A7RM3. As for the tripod, turn off all internal optimization, ISO 100, and the positions of the clipping center and edge are as shown in the figure below.

It can be seen that the center resolution of Sony SEL24 105G is very good: at all apertures, except the very small aperture, the image quality is degraded due to diffraction, and the performance under all apertures is not much different, which can be said to be throughout.

The analytical performance of the edge is obviously not as good as that of the center, but the overall performance is better among competing products of the same level. Of course, whether it is the wide-angle end or the telephoto end, in order to obtain better edge image quality, it is recommended to receive the aperture F8-F 1 1.

Suggestions for use:

When we shoot with this lens, if we need to ensure the luminous flux for indoor or macro shooting, then we can try to shoot with the aperture fully open. After all, this theme usually does not require high edge quality, and SEL24 105 actually performs well. However, if it is a subject that pursues the ultimate image quality, such as shooting landscapes, it is recommended to use the aperture of F8-F 1 1 to obtain better edge image quality. (After F 16, it is recommended not to use it in general, which is common sense in the digital age. )

Measurement of dark angle distortion of Sony FE 24- 105 micro-single tiger balm

Dark corner, or edge loss of light, can actually be solved perfectly by post-optimization or in-machine optimization in the era of digital photography. As long as it is not serious enough to affect the luminous flux, it is not the key to judge the quality of a lens.

However, in order to further understand the characteristics of this lens, we decided to take a look at the dark corner performance of this lens.

Turn off all lens calibration in the machine, and it is still a real shot test. Let's take a look at the dark angle characteristics of this lens.

First, 24 mm ends.

Then the 105mm end.

It can be seen that the dark angle of this SEL24 105G is the same at the wide-angle end and the telephoto end. F4 has a dark angle, but it is not serious. When the aperture receives F 1 1, the influence of dark angle can be almost completely eliminated.

Generally speaking, the dark angle of SEL24 105 has little effect on the overall imaging.

Although SEL24 105G doesn't adopt targeted design (such as infinite aperture) for video, with its constant aperture and convenient focal length, I believe many people will consider using it to shoot video. So is this shot suitable for co-production video? Let's first see if this shot has a serious impact on breathing.

The so-called respiratory effects refers to the different scenes in the picture when the lens has the same focal length and different focus points. Generally speaking, the better the lens, the smaller the difference between different focal points. With the change of focal length, the difference lens will be enlarged and reduced as if the focal length had been adjusted.

Please pay attention to the position of the square candle on the edge of the picture to lift the doll. It can be seen that during the transition from infinity to the nearest focal length, the scene has hardly changed. Therefore, it can be said that the breathing effect of Sony SEL24 105G is also well controlled.

After our test, SEL24 105 will have slight purple edge and green edge dispersion under bad backlight environment, but the dispersion is not serious, and it will basically not affect shooting during use. If you mind, you can solve this problem by turning on the color difference correction in the machine.

Second, about focusing.

In the focusing performance of the lens, the absence of presence is actually the best performance. SEL24 105, whether paired with flagship machine such as A9 and A7RM3 or older A7 and A7M2, has no sense of existence, and the difference in focusing speed is only in the fuselage. It should be said that at present, no Sony model can reach the limit of SEL24 105 focusing speed.

Third, about the macro.

The magnification of Sony SEL24 105G is about 0.3 1 times, so the lens has a certain close-up capability. Although the smallest insects can't be photographed, this lens is very handy for taking small objects such as watches and jewelry (after all, it has anti-shake).

Fourth, about anti-shake.

Finally, regarding anti-shake, the experience in this area varies from person to person. The author said that the anti-shake of this lens is still very useful. Having said too much, the focal length of this lens is about 50mm, and the shutter photo of one tenth of a second is not taken in vain, so I am still very confident.
