How to explain ADR recording in layman’s terms?
A popular explanation of ADR recording is that ADR is a technology for resetting dialogue based on synchronized reference soundtracks. Since there are usually tens of dB of noise at the filming site, in order to obtain higher dynamics, the dialogue will be re-recorded in the studio, but the sound will be reproduced according to the sound obtained on site, and the sense of space and distance will be very good.
A junior brother at the film school came to me and asked me whether the film should be made at the same time or later. What does ADR mean? I explained to him what Adr meant.
Post-dubbing is the actor’s task in the later stages of recording dialogue. In the recording studio, facing the screen, the actor looked at his performance on the screen, trying his best to find out how he felt about the character during filming, and the correct psychological movements and emotional changes of the character. On the one hand, he comes up with lines that are touching and listenable.
At the same time, it is very important to match the shape of the mouth. This process is post-dubbing. The later stage of the work of the film crew is to carefully select and select each shot recorded on the film by the director and editor, and then assemble them in sequence one scene at a time to form a semi-finished product that connects the pictures.
Then the director and sound engineer record the dialogue (what the characters say), effects, sound, music (including songs in the movie), etc. of each scene on magnetic tape, and then mix and record them into various The other half of the finished speaker connection.
Finally, the photographer performs light distribution, color grading and other processes on the assembled pictures, and then all the sounds are optically mixed and recorded on the film of the picture to become a finished product, that is, it is completed. copy. At this point all production of the film is complete.
Process
When recording dialogue, what the actors see is a sequence of scenes with plot development. When actors are filming, it is impossible to create in one go, but at this time the actors can further complete the performance in the picture through language that is coherent and full of emotional changes. Of course, this coherence is still limited.
Because it is difficult for actors to accurately express all the scenes they have filmed and the lines they have spoken, so when recording dialogues, they still record them reel by reel (each reel is about three to five inches long). Ten feet──varying from one to two hundred feet). Both the sound engineer and the actors hope to improve the quality of the film through dialogue. As an audio-visual art that combines sound and picture, this is a combination of two important aspects.
