What are the behind-the-scenes productions of American mermaid movies in 2006?

Creation background

The movie Mermaid is adapted from the novel of the same name by the famous female writer Alice Hoffman. Her previous works that have been put on the big screen include Witchcraft Breaking Love and This Land of Love. Fox 2000 Film Company, which enjoys the copyright of Hoffman's works, found the director Elizabeth Allen with the first draft of novels and scripts. Although Allen has never directed a feature film, Fox 2000 was deeply moved by her award-winning short film, Eyeball Eddie, and she had long intended to cooperate with it. Mermaids can inspire Allen's creation.

Susan Carter Sonis, former production director of Fox Film Company, was also attracted by the script of this film. She has always had a soft spot for films that focus on independent women. While working at Fox, she was keen on movies such as Knocking on the Door of Love and Buffy the Vampire Hunter, and then she starred in Sweetheart and Man. The theme of mermaid is very close to Susan's heart, which may have a positive impact on young women.

Photography point

After a long period of screening, the cast was finally formed, but the film creators still face the thorny problem of choosing the shooting location. Because the film had to be shot between Emma Roberts and sara paxton, it was impossible to present the summer in the northeast of the United States according to the script. After traveling to Louisiana, Florida and California, the crew decided to shoot in Australia. The story took place in Tampa Bay, which means that the crew will reproduce the coastal characteristics of Florida on the Gold Coast of Australia.

Scene construction

Nelson Coates, the artistic director who undertook this important task, participated in the filming of Out of Adversity and Out of Control Jury. In order to prepare for the scene of Capri Beach Club, Coates' team visited many local beach clubs, and found that none of them had the relaxed and nostalgic style of the East Coast of the United States, and there was no swimming pool at all, so Coates had to lead the team to build it on the spot. Because the building is located along the huge waves on the Gold Coast, the scenery must stand the test of wind and waves. Coates also pays full attention to the unique details of Tampa Bay, such as signs, sand walls, palm trees and left-hand steering vehicles. Because there is no Florida-style water tower in Australia where the mermaid lives, the crew built this tower in different places. When shooting the scene of the reservoir at the top of the tower, Coates first built a giant sink on the set, then created an interior in a nearby studio, and then merged the two pictures into one.
