[Photographer] frans Lanting, the benchmark of nature photographers.

There is a legend in Kwikwasut'inuxw Indian tribe: A long time ago, all animals, regardless of their appearance, were the same species. Every year, they go to a mysterious cave, shed their feathers/fur/epidermis/carapace, reveal their true shape, and then dance happily together to celebrate the reunion. One day, humans discovered this cave and saw their dance. Humans laugh at their strange behavior because they don't know what these animals are doing. Embarrassed and ashamed, the animals dispersed separately, which was the last time they met in the cave (Lanting's Photo of Giving Sound to the Animal Kingdom).

Frans Lanting, a nature photographer, said, "This story inspired me a lot. I have been trying to photograph the soul and deeper things under the skin of animals. All animals are actually the same species. I want to really get to know them and establish contact with them to make up for what we didn't do in the legend "((Lanting's" Photos of Voicing to the Animal King ").

Many people asked Lanting, "Do you photograph humans?" ?

Lanting replied: "Humans have always been in my photos. Even if humans don't necessarily appear in the photo, you have to see through the disguise on the surface. " Indeed, in many photos of Lanting, we can feel that they are watching us, or angry, or serene, or alert, or amazed ... no matter what kind of emotions, we can feel the interaction between each other and us. No language is needed, but we can understand.

What's his shooting secret? Lanting said, "As a photographer, I tried to penetrate the camouflage of genes to highlight the common ground of all our creatures. When I raised my camera, I peeled off my skin, just like an animal in a cave. Only in this way can I show you what they are and what's under their surface. " ?

195 1 year, frans Lanting was born in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. With sebastian? Like O salgado, he majored in economics, got a master's degree in economics, and then went to the United States to study environmental planning. Probably infected by America's rich landforms and scenery, he soon began to photograph nature.

He loved nature since he was a child and hoped that his future job would be "working with nature". After he started his career as a professional photographer, he showed the beauty of the earth and conveyed the call for environmental protection through lenses and touching photos, from the Amazon rainforest in South America to Madagascar to the frozen South Pole. His mission is to "use the power of photography to expand the influence of nature conservation by publishing works, establishing alliances, attending public places and actively supporting environmental organizations" (National Geographic).

As an excellent natural history recorder, he has taken photos of landscapes and wildlife for National Geographic, Outdoor Photographer and other publications for a long time. His wife, Christine Ekster, is an excellent writer, editor, producer and his best partner. They often cooperate to complete photo collections and exhibitions.

Seeing Lanting's works and speeches inspired me to take pictures of wild animals. It's only been a year since I started nature photography, and it's only been half a year since I got my first super telephoto lens. At first, being able to photograph a wild animal clearly and completely made me proud for half a day. But with the development of technology and muscles, I began to be confused. Why should I shoot these animals? If it is pure love, I can watch related TV programs; If it is to enjoy the time with them, why don't I sit in a chair with a telescope to pass the cool breeze all day; I have tried to use some portrait photography techniques to make the animals under my lens look more beautiful at first sight, but in the end, Lanting taught me that shooting is not only to impress the audience, but also to lead the influence of the work on people to a specific problem, thus achieving the ultimate goal of the photographer.

In Lanting's view, shooting animals is not to win a trophy of "I took XX", but to introduce these natural ambassadors to the world. Through these ambassadors, people can learn more vividly about a species, an ecosystem and even our planet.

Thomas, former director of national geographic photography? Kennedy commented on him: "He has the mind of a scientist, the heart of a hunter and the eyes of a poet." In the next collection "Life: A Journey through Time and Space", you will see how he shoots objects through scientific choices, captures them firmly like a hunter, and conveys the essence of his works with poetic perspectives and techniques.

Life: a journey through time and space

This work is a book, an exhibition, a website and a world tour of philip glass Music Multimedia Orchestra. More than 70 photos have taken us from BIGBANG, across time and space, to the earth where modern human beings live, from singleness to pluralism, from desolation to glory. In these photos, I not only saw the talent of a natural photographer, but also saw the rigor of scholars and the creation and romance of poets.

RelaTED ted talk

Most of Lanting's works are not beautiful at first glance, but they are particularly attractive. His shooting style has changed a lot, using various techniques, but the spirit of the photos is very unified. After reading so many works of Lanting, I can't help laughing at myself and being annoyed. Many times I deliberately regard photos as the first beauty, which makes people feel the visual impact within 0.3 seconds, leaving a "like"; But at the same time, I also hope that my works can be hung at home for people to watch and read for a long time. And such works can't be beautiful empty shelves.

Be sure to know what you are looking for and what you want to express before shooting. The charm of nature photography lies not only in capturing wonderful and rare moments, but also in having spirit and purpose. Nature photography, like photography with other themes, is the expression of the photographer's thoughts, emotions and ideas. To be an excellent nature photographer, you should not only know more about nature, but also know the subject and the environment in which it is taken. We should also maintain a humble and equal attitude, integrate into their world and pursue their truth.
