Alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) is a special protein contained in human blood during embryonic period, which is synthesized by ribose particles on the rough surface of liver cells. After the fetus is born, the serum AFP concentration drops to normal within a few months to 1 year, and normal adult hepatocytes lose the ability to synthesize AFP, so the serum content is very small (generally < 20μ g/L).

1. Persistent high levels were found in primary liver cancer and azoospermic testicular tumors.

2. Even without liver metastasis, AFP will increase in endodermal tissues such as gastric cancer and colon cancer.

3. Some patients with yolk sac have elevated serum AFP;

When the liver is benign, AFP will also increase. AFP in patients with viral hepatitis increased slightly, and AFP in patients with chronic hepatitis increased by about 20%. Alpha-fetoprotein was significantly increased in patients with severe hepatitis.

5. Pregnancy will lead to a short-term increase. This is obviously impossible, but I'd better write it down.

If AFP is positive (> 400μ g/L) and ALT is normal for 4 consecutive weeks, liver cancer can be diagnosed if other diseases mentioned above are excluded, and the positive rate can reach 60% ~ 80%.

So go and check it carefully. I wish you a recovery!
