Casting method

In order to make the whole film more objective and closer to the real foundation, the director's fee uses a large number of non-professional actors to perform real performances. The crew first found more than 400 non-professional actors from the streets of Rio, and then selected 200 suitable candidates after training. They were divided into eight groups according to their differences, and then went through two months of professional actor courses. Finally, outstanding actors aged 1 12 to 19 were selected and arranged for them to receive an eight-month intensive training for actors. In the process of training, they are refined into the most real life and then integrated into the script. In the process of shooting, the director pays more attention to the improvisation of non-professional actors, which makes the film have a realistic style closer to the market.

Creation background

Fernando Merilaas, after reading the novel "The Town of God", decided to make a film that reflected slum life and had no acting skills. When Fernando Merrill told Paul with some enthusiasm that he wanted to make this film, he was very excited. Frinando and Blariaux Mantofini began to adapt the script. His first contact with Braulio was to discuss the background age and the language used in the film, when he was writing the first three manuscripts. Two years later, he became a consultant again, but this time for Catilaz Lund.

Shooting process

Shooting started in June of 200 1 year. During the filming, Paul was invited to help discuss some problems in the film. On the set, Fernando and Katiras often adopt some of his suggestions. Photographer Caesar Caron copied the passages from the original novel and pasted them on the door, so that a clear character image would be formed in his mind every time.

When Caesar set out to design the shooting process, Fernando had decided to shoot the film with extras who really lived in slums instead of professional actors. He thinks this is more realistic, but it also brings some difficulties to the shooting work.

When shooting, in order to fully present the black face of the city of God, the film production team insisted on mobilizing to shoot at the scene regardless of their lives. Working here requires not only a person who is familiar with the local situation. In the end, the crew was completely guarded by the police, and the production team randomly changed the shooting location, so that the whole film could be completed as scheduled without hurting people.
