Tongli Town, one of the six ancient towns in the south of the Yangtze River, is located in Wujiang District, Suzhou, east of the ancient canal near Taihu Lake. Founded in the Song Dynasty, it has a history of 1000 years, and it is a veritable water town. It is 18km away from Suzhou downtown and 80km away from Shanghai. Tongli covers an area of 33 hectares, surrounded by five lakes, and the town is divided into seven islands by a reticulated river. The ancient town has beautiful scenery and is surrounded by water. 1982 became the earliest and only ancient town in Jiangsu province that took the whole town as a cultural relic protection unit. 1995 is listed as the first batch of famous historical and cultural towns in Jiangsu province. 1998, the ancient water town and tuisi garden were included in the preparatory list of world cultural heritage.

Tongli is an ancient town with a long history and a typical water town. Tongli was once called "the land of wealth". In the early Tang Dynasty, it was changed to Tongli, and the old name was spelled Tongli in the Song Dynasty. Tongli has beautiful scenery and the town is surrounded by water. The town is divided into 7 small islands by 15 river and connected by 49 bridges. Every family in the town is near the water, and every family is connected by boat; Residential buildings in Ming and Qing dynasties are row upon row; Bridges in Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties are well preserved.
