Alice's Prototype alice carroll One summer day in 1862, Carol led the three daughters of the Dean of Christ College in Oxford University to go boating on the Thames. While having a tea break on the river bank, he made up a fantasy story for the children, and the name of the protagonist came from the cleverest and cutest seven-year-old Alice among the sisters. After returning home, Carol wrote down the story at Alice's request and gave it to Alice by herself. Soon after, the novelist Henry Kingsley found the manuscript, and he was amazed at the imaginative power of the story. Encouraged by him, Carol further polished the story and published it in 1865 under the title Alice in Wonderland.
