The Bing Xin Award was co-founded in 1990 by scholar Lei Jieqiong, writer Han Suyin and others. It consists of Bing Xin Children's Literature New Work Award, Bing Xin Children's Book Award, Bing Xin Art Award, Bing Xin Composition Award. The Bing Xin Award is held annually and awarded around Bing Xin's birthday. In the early days of its establishment, Bing Xin personally reviewed the winning works for each award. This award is China's only international Chinese children's literature and art award. Chinese articles from all over the world can participate in the evaluation. Previous winners include not only writers from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, but also writers from other countries.

In 1992, the Bing Xin Children's Book Award added the "Bing Xin Children's Book New Book Award", and the first awards ceremony was held that year. Starting from the ninth session, the award has been renamed "Bing Xin Children's Literature New Work Award". In 2002, the Bing Xin Photography Literature Award was added.
