Who knows the engagement custom in Jiangxi? The man is from Jiangxi.
I can only think of the customs of Wuyuan, Jiangxi.
Wedding is the biggest happy event in life. Both parties and their families are very cautious and act according to the ceremony for fear of omissions and criticisms. In the past, Wuyuan paid more attention to marriage than bride price. From engagement to marriage, there are the following procedures and etiquette:
The man who set foot at home went to the woman to act as matchmaker. After the woman initially agrees to get married, she should choose a day to visit the man, commonly known as "setting foot at home." Whether marriage can be achieved depends on "investigation", so both men and women attach great importance to it. On the day she set foot at home, the woman's parents, relatives and others came to the man's house to learn about the future son-in-law and his family's economy, population and the character of the man's parents. The man should not only give a grand reception with wine, but also give a red envelope to everyone who comes to see it. He can't neglect it at all.
Get engaged when you decide. After men and women set foot on the land, they need to ask their fortune tellers to see if there is any collision. If there are no obstacles and the woman does not raise any objection, the man can bring wine, cigarettes, fish, meat, cakes, eggs and other gifts to the woman's house for engagement, commonly known as "clapping." If the woman accepts the gift, the marriage is settled; Don't accept it. After the decision is made, the wine that the woman needs to invite relatives and friends to drink will be made public.
After the wedding is decided, the man chooses the wedding date, writes the wedding ceremony stickers and sends them to the woman for comments; The parents and relatives of the woman and the person who sent the wedding stickers to the man (usually the relatives of the man) negotiated with each other and agreed to light the red candle, write down the wedding date and gift list on red paper and give it to the man. Two days before the auspicious day, the man sends the gift to the woman's house according to the gift list, which is called a bucket; After the woman accepts the betrothal gift, she will tie it one by one, light firecrackers and send it out of the house. Every time she raises a dowry, she will be carried back to the man's house by the person who carries the bucket. On the afternoon before the auspicious day, the man invited three relatives and friends to the woman's house to marry the bride. Interestingly, after the married person arrives at the woman's door, the woman's door is closed. The married person should set off firecrackers and send red envelopes through the crack of the door. Usually, the bride's brother collects red envelopes behind the door. If she is not satisfied with the money in the red envelope, she can send it out through the door. When she sees the red envelope sent back from outside, she will open it, put the money in, wrap it up and send it in through the door. If she is not satisfied, she can send it out, and so on. Until she is satisfied, she will open the door to let the wedding guests in. In the meantime, firecrackers should be ringing off the hook. This custom is to increase the lively atmosphere and interest, not to increase the amount of money. The bride's family invited relatives and friends to drink with the wedding guests. After the banquet, the bridesmaid took the bride to bid farewell to her parents and elders one by one, and each elder gave the bride a "farewell red envelope", and then someone carried her into the sedan chair. According to Wuyuan custom, the bridesmaid is called "the hen's wife" and the person who carries the bride on the sedan chair is called "the hen's husband". Those who are invited to be "the hen's husband" and "the hen's wife" must be "lucky people". They all have children, are healthy and have a good family.
Crying in a sedan chair is an ancient custom in Wuyuan. The couple got into the sedan chair, and their mother cried at home. When they got into the sedan chair, they cried goodbye to their parents, elders, brothers and sisters, commonly known as crying in the sedan chair. Crying in a sedan chair is one thing. The mother's crying should express her daughter's cleverness and filial piety on weekdays, her persuasion and expectation after marriage, etc. By "crying"; When a daughter cries, she will "cry" out the love, care, friendship and future wishes of her parents, brothers and sisters. The whole word "cry", if you listen carefully, gives people a deep affection and a strong infection that mother and daughter can't separate, although sadness is real and joy is mixed. However, not every mother and daughter can cry like this. Crying well and sincerely, so that everyone can listen and pedestrians stop, not only need to have a deep emotional foundation at ordinary times, but also need to have a certain culture, preparation and conception at that time.
When the sedan chair is carried to the door of the man's house, the bride must be carried out by the "lucky" chosen by the man and sent to the bridal chamber. That night, the man's family held a big banquet and invited relatives and friends who gave gifts to congratulate him to accompany the groom for a wedding banquet, commonly known as "inviting the groom." After the banquet, a wedding ceremony was held, formerly known as "meeting the bride". The "lucky man" guides the bride and groom to the hall, where they worship the sky, the ground, the high hall and the husband and wife, and then the husband and wife visit the man's uncle, uncle, aunt, brother, brother, sister and other relatives one by one. All the worshiped relatives will give the bride and groom red envelopes to congratulate them. After the ceremony, * * * drank the wedding banquet and sent the bride and groom to the bridal chamber.
On the second day of inviting my uncle back to the door to get married, the man will entertain the bride's brother, which is called "inviting my uncle"; On the third day, someone came from the woman's house to pick up her daughter and new uncle and said, "take the door back." When the son-in-law came to her parents' house, he first met the elders of the woman's family, and then hosted a banquet accompanied by her relatives and friends. After dinner, both husband and wife returned to the man's house. At this point, the whole wedding activity is over.
