How to use Canon 17-85 wide-angle lens?

1. Please don't look at the sun or bright light sources through the lens or camera. Otherwise, your eyesight will be damaged. Looking directly at the sun through the lens is especially harmful.

2. Whether the lens is installed on the camera or not, don't put the lens in the sun without the lens cover. This can prevent the lens from focusing on the sunlight, thus avoiding a fire.

Precautions for use

If the lens is brought from a cold environment to a warm environment, condensation may occur on the surface and inside of the lens. In order to prevent condensation in this case, put the lens into a sealed plastic bag before bringing it from a cold environment to a warm environment. When the lens is warm, take it out and use it. The same method is used when the lens is brought from a warm environment to a cold environment.

After removing the lens, place the rear end of the lens upward to avoid scratching the lens surface and electronic contacts.

If the electronic contact is dirty, scratched or stained with fingerprints, it may lead to corrosion or poor contact. The camera and lens may not work properly.

If the electronic contacts are dirty or stained with fingerprints, please wipe them with a soft cloth.

To shoot in autofocus mode, set the focus mode switch to af.

To use manual focus only, set the focus mode switch to mf, and then turn the focus ring manually. You can use the focus ring in all focus modes.

After autofocus in the once autofocus mode, you can manually focus by pressing the shutter button and turning the focus ring. (Full-time manual focusing)

Turn the zoom ring of the lens to zoom.

Be sure to finish zooming before focusing. Changing the zoom ring after focusing will affect focusing.

Image stabilizer

The image stabilizer can be used in auto focus and manual focus modes.

1 Turn the stabilizer switch to the on position.

If you don't want to use the image stabilization function, please set this switch to off.

When the shutter button is pressed halfway, the image stabilizer starts to work.

Please check whether the image is stable through the viewfinder before fully pressing the shutter button to shoot.

The image stabilizer is particularly effective for hand-held shooting in the following situations.

1 In a dim environment, such as dusk or indoors.

Places where flash photography is forbidden, such as art museums and theater stages.

When you can't stabilize your body for shooting.

Image stabilizer

1 The image stabilizer can't compensate the picture blur caused by the movement of the subject.

2 When shooting with B-door setting (long exposure), please turn the stabilizer switch to off.

If the switch is in the on position at this time, the image stabilizer function may go wrong.

3 The image stabilizer may not fully function under the following circumstances:

Move the camera while panning.

B driving on a bumpy road to shoot.

Because it consumes more energy, it can shoot fewer times when using anti-shake than a conventional lens without anti-shake.

Even if you release the shutter button with your finger, the image stabilizer will run for about 2 seconds. Don't take off the lens when the stabilizer is working, otherwise it will lead to failure.

1 When shooting with a tripod, turn off the image stabilizer to save battery power.

The image stabilizer has the same effect when shooting with a hand-held camera and a monopod.

The image stabilizer also works when the lens uses ef 12 ll or ef25 ll telescopic tube.

4 If the button for specifying the operation af is changed by using the camera's customization function, press the recently specified af button to start the image stabilizer.

It is used to compensate the difference caused by the infinite distance from the temperature change to the focus.

The distance between the vertical line of the L mark and the distance scale indicates that the point where the mark is aligned is an infinite position at room temperature.

To accurately focus an object at infinity manually, please observe through the viewfinder while turning the focus ring.

You can screw the filter on the filter mounting thread in front of the lens.

Only one filter can be installed.

If you need to use polarizing filter, please use Canon 67mm pl-c polarizing filter.

Before adjusting the polarization filter, first remove the protective cover.

When installing Canon 67mm pl-c polarizing filter, the lens cover cannot be covered.

The hood ew-73b can block unnecessary light from entering the lens and protect the lens from rain, snow and dust.

When installing the hood, align the installation position mark of the hood with the red dot in front of the lens, and then rotate the hood clockwise until the red dot of the lens is aligned with the stop position mark of the hood.

When stored, the hood can be placed on the lens in reverse.

If the hood is not installed properly, some images will be blocked.

When installing or removing the protective cover, hold the bottom of the protective cover and rotate it. In order to prevent the hood from deforming, don't grab its outer edge and rotate it.

When using the built-in flash, please remove the lens cover first. The hood will block the flash.

EF12II or Ef25 telescopic tube can be installed for zoom shooting. The shooting distance and magnification are as follows:

Ef 12 or ef25 extension pipes cannot be installed.

When installing the telephoto lens barrel, please use manual focusing.

After installing the gelatin filter bracket, you can use the filter to create various effects.

Compatibility of gelatin filter bracket is as follows.

Gelatin filter bracket Ⅲ: Incompatible

Gelatin filter bracket Ⅳ: compatible (hood cannot be used)
