Two types of American film education;

(1) The first category is specialized art colleges, some of which are similar to Beijing Film Academy, such as American Film Academy, New York Film Academy and california institute of the arts. Art colleges such as junior colleges and junior colleges provide very detailed film and television majors, such as directing, camera shooting, editing, production, screenwriter, animation and so on. However, these schools generally do not award bachelor's degrees, but are vocational education and award associate bachelor's degrees. (2) The other is the film and television major or film school of comprehensive universities, such as new york University (NYU), Columbia University and UCLA. However, the film and television majors in these universities are not as detailed as the first category, and most of them just distinguish between production and scriptwriting. There are also some film schools in comprehensive universities that offer other majors in production, animation or new media. This kind of school has a stronger academic atmosphere.

The United States also has a drama major, similar to the domestic performance major, which mainly trains actors. There may be an interview when applying, and besides the basic requirements, some papers are needed. Although these majors belong to the art category, most of them are awarded bachelor of arts degrees (a few vocational and art colleges award bachelor of arts degrees, and individual art colleges award bachelor of science degrees in design and digital media).

The study of American film major in postgraduate stage;

The postgraduate stage is theoretical and divided into MA (Master of Arts) and MFA (Master of Arts). Generally speaking, Ma has been studying film for one or two years, mainly studying film theory. MFA is mostly film production, mainly engaged in film production, screenwriter and post-production.

At present, the doctoral research of film science in the United States is mostly concentrated in UW- Madison (University of Wisconsin-Madison), Columbia University (Columbia University) and UT-Austin (University of Texas at Austin). UCLA (University of California, Los Angeles), USC (University of Southern California) and NYU (University of new york) are also the main force of advanced film theory training.

Master's and doctoral graduates with strong academic background are mostly engaged in film reviews or associations and other related work.

Application for film major in American universities:

Film-related majors will not be lower than other majors in entrance threshold, especially in language requirements, because there are still higher requirements for writing ability. There are no special preferential policies.

Going to the United States to study movies is not much different from other majors in terms of fees and scholarships. There are relatively few scholarships for film majors.
