Construction Log 1 At 5: 00 a.m., the masters have started to build scaffolding for the exhibition hall. At this time, Li Zong and we were still far away in Beijing.

Wu Ge work camp assigned several students from architecture department of Nantah to each group, and the students assigned to our group were Pan Youjian, Wang He and Cui Aohan. In the afternoon, on the train to Nanjing, we received a phone call from them: the situation has changed and the work has stopped. It turns out that the scaffolding commonly used in Nanjing is not the same as the scaffolding we designed in Beijing-the gantry of the scaffold we designed and used is divided into two sections, namely, the ladder section and the empty section, in which there is a horizontal steel pipe every 400mm from bottom to top, which is convenient for us to fix the seat; The scaffolding portal frame commonly used in Nanjing is a standard "door"-shaped member. The ladders are distributed on the left and right sides and are narrow, with a hollow section in the middle. This means that all our seating surfaces need to be fixed by other methods, and the "stairs" used up and down need to be made separately. In addition, the initial idea of using sandbags for foundation leveling was also rejected by the construction party, and this foundation method was not allowed in terms of cost or construction period.

As soon as we got off the train, we went straight to the scene. Despite many problems, when we approached the site, we were shocked by the sight: a group of scaffolding structures arranged from top to bottom stood quietly on the abutment, facing the cold smoke and grass, echoing the distant city wall. This special structure is so abstract but full of affection, as cold as donald judd's sculpture, but it can inspire your infinite association. At the moment, there is no need to explain. It is really difficult to find a more appropriate word to express "the power of things" except the "poem" that Mr. Li often talks about.

In the face of this scene, the original uneasiness was swept away. We immediately had a simple communication and consultation with Jiang Gong, the general manager of the construction site, and Xin Gong, the person in charge of scaffolding construction, and temporarily adjusted the scheme: First, using local scaffolding in Nanjing, adding a steel pipe at a height of 400mm to fix the steel plate on the sitting surface; Second, cancel the sandbag foundation and level it with special feet with adjustable height, which will be used as pile foundation; Thirdly, a circle of steel pipes is fixed at the bottom of the scaffold for laying steel plates to form the ground, and the steel pipes simultaneously form a circle of "ground beams" to enhance the stability of the whole scaffold; Fourth, the stairs of the tower are made of the ladders that come with the gantry, and the stairs of the pavilion are specially made.

Engineering construction log 2 at 8 am, when we arrived at the construction site, the tower had already set up two floors. Four students from NTU are mainly responsible for shooting and recording the construction process on site, and we need to adjust some scheme details at any time according to the construction situation on site. We found that the strength of adjacent scaffolding connected by steel pipes is much higher than that of steel plates connected by rotating direction before. After consulting with General Manager Li and the simplex on site, we decided to add four stay cables at the four corners of the tower to restore the height of the tower to the seventh floor.

In the afternoon, the structure of the tower was partially completed. Lin Wen couldn't wait to climb to the top of the tower, and conveniently commanded the masters at the top of the tower to complete the structure of the corridor. The process of building corridor also optimized and adjusted the scheme. We increase the turning angle of the corridor to form a V-shaped space facing the city wall and an open space on the north side.

Because the east-west folding corridor is more than 60 meters long, the site flatness is poor, which is actually the most difficult and time-consuming. At about 3 pm, the wall gallery structure was finally completed.

Unlike more definite towers and corridors, "mountains" have a lot of room for change. Where is the peak? How to rise? How to connect with the tower? This requires temporary adjustment and judgment according to the completed tower. In the end, we and Jiang Gong commanded the workers and masters to complete the construction of this mountain step by step.

At this time, the simplest pavilion beside Dongchi has stood there quietly.

Engineering construction log 3 has no accidents. When we arrived at the scene in the morning, the laying of the tower had been completed. The masters at the construction site are used to rough work, and it seems that they are not good at cutting and sewing soft sunshade nets, and the white cable ties are different, which is particularly obvious. At the suggestion of Jiang Gong, we temporarily changed a black tie and showed the master how to lock the edge of the tie on the spot. In order to save time, several of us took the initiative to help workers cut the mesh cloth in advance, and the work of sewing and stretching the cloth gradually became more efficient. At the end of the day, the stretching of towers and corridors is basically completed.

At the same time, knowing that it might rain the next day, Simon asked the scaffolding team to finish it today in order to ensure the progress of the project. After completing the structural adjustment of corridors, towers, mountains and pavilions and laying steel plates, our merchandiser came to the original pavilion for on-site adjustment. Because the use of additional steel pipes enhances the structural strength of scaffolding, many diagonal braces and steel plates that could not be cancelled can be removed, which greatly liberates the internal space.

Finally, the inner courtyard space with four floors in the center, the couch space with deliberate depression in the core area, the double-deck corridor space with twists and turns in the outer ring and the corner platform space on the second floor are formed. The original abstract structure has become a real house, with inward space, outward space, passage space and staying space.

At 7 o'clock in the afternoon, the scaffolding project was completed, and after a simple structural completion ceremony, it was over.

The rainy season in Nanjing is difficult to determine, and the rain will come at any time. Fortunately, the rain in Mao Mao does not affect the construction.

When I arrived at the scene, I saw the tree pavilion in the rain stretching on the top of the small slope, all wet and black. I immediately thought of the quaint little pavilion in Ni Zan's Empty Forest after the Rain. Compared with the previous day, the "skills" of the masters today have been significantly improved. Masters in a small "fairy hall", in pairs to make a big dress for the building, very comfortable.

But when we reached the roof of the exhibition hall, things became much more complicated. Tiger has a large volume and a high height, and the roof form is "mountain shape". In addition, there are many changes. Each piece of cloth needs to be measured and cut on the spot, and now it is stretched and shaped. At the end of the day, the workers and masters were exhausted, only the semi-pavilion part of the pavilion and the south roof of the main body were elongated. It was originally expected to be completed on July 7, and everyone is worried about the remaining workload tomorrow.

Project Construction Log No.5 As No.7 is the interim report of the whole work camp, the six of us will be divided into two groups: Yu Ting will lead Pan and Wang to keep an eye on the site, and Yang and Cui will be responsible for the interim report documents. In the morning, Yu Ting took a photo of the scene. In the bright sunshine, an indescribable gable house crawled on a low pedestal, and a huge black roof hung down from a height, faintly revealing the vertical and horizontal steel frames inside. This large object is obviously different from the temples and pavilions in traditional buildings, but it has an indescribable sense of Gu Zhuo, which has moved us a lot these days. At this moment, seeing its clear eyes and standing in a complete posture under the blue sky, there is a familiar strangeness.

In the afternoon, when Yang and Cui arrived at the scene, the stretching work of the exhibition hall had been completed, and the corridor and exhibition hall were basically completed. The master workers concentrated on attacking the last mountain. At this time, we had an idea. Compared with other flats, the tension cloth of the tower is really unsatisfactory. Nervous again! We had a quiz with Jiang Gong, and Jiang Gong looked unhappy. Indeed, the mountain with the most complicated shape change may not be completed on time, but it seems unreasonable to rework and re-stretch the tower. We thought for a moment and decided to do it ourselves-cut and stretch ourselves. We divided into two groups and began to work at once. In just over two hours, the first to fourth floors have been changed. At this time, the mountain was basically completed, and the masters climbed to the top of the tower, three times five divided by two and put the last layers of mesh cloth away.

It's too late, and the four groups of houses have finally been completed. We had a simple completion dinner in the pavilion. When Jiang Gong saw that the house was finally completed, he said with emotion, "(The pavilion) is very small. Your plan is better and easier. This is a very simple thing, and the construction cost is very low, but there is such a feeling when it is made ... Now you look back at this small house. You stand in the middle and look at these things and that porch. It feels like this when there is no wind. " Four days later, everyone was exhausted, but everyone's face was full of smiles. ...

On the day before the final report of the project construction log 6, Mr. Li personally directed the masters to lay the cushions, pull on the lights, and complete the details of railings and stairs (at the platform on the second floor of Taige).

In the afternoon, I learned that typhoon "Chanhong" arrived in Nanjing at night and will be accompanied by heavy rain.

We are all worried about the four groups of houses that will stand the test of wind and rain, and we also agree with the proposal of the builder-pull four more steel cables at the tower corner just in case.

Final report of engineering construction log 7. 1 1 The wind roared outside the lecture hall. At this time, Yu Ting is shooting with the photographer at the scene. Although the strong wind did not affect the main structure, some mesh cloth and steel plates were deformed or even overturned by the wind. In order to prevent accidents, the masters reinforced the steel plate and steel frame with cable ties.

When the wind comes, the rain stops, and the clouds clear away, the sunset glow and the Peach Blossom Garden are so timely and poetic, which we realized and recorded.

Watch the last film: in a vast expanse, the house stands quietly, as if talking to each other, telling the story of the venue. This house took four days to complete and will be demolished in a month. This is just a moment in the 2000-year history of this place. But just like the bustling city in the distance, the demolished broken walls nearby, and the city walls that have stood for hundreds of years, what is a lasting existence?

At five o'clock in the morning on the eighth day of the project construction log, before dawn, Lin Wen and Kong Xianghui of the studio walked on the familiar Yangming Street and came to the base. In a few hours, four groups of houses will be demolished, scaffolding will be transported to the construction site or warehouse, cushions and nets will be packed and sent back to Beijing by us.

From pavilions to towers, we have made detailed records of the demolition of every house. Just like Swiss artists' anti-entropy obsessive-compulsive works, doorframes, straps, steel plates, mesh cloth, cushions and cable ties are re-stacked and restored to their original state.

At 9 am, the demolition work was completed. When the last truck drove away, Pan Youjian took some photos, and the venue returned to a month ago, as if nothing had happened.
