Photography requires manual focusing.

Manual focusing is indeed much more troublesome than automatic focusing in use, but it is still necessary and practical. The following is the occasion where I bring you photography that needs manual focusing. Welcome to reading.

First, shooting in low light environment

Have you ever met a venue where the lighting is too dim, even if you can see the subject clearly with the naked eye, but when you lift the camera and press the shutter halfway, you find that the camera can't focus, even if you press it, you can't take pictures? In fact, autofocus is quite dependent on the light of the scene environment. In the environment of low light and low contrast, the camera can't focus accurately, and even make you miss the opportunity to shoot.

When shooting in a low-light room, when you find an excellent shooting moment and can't focus because of insufficient light, you can immediately use manual focusing to solve the problem.

Second, macro shooting

Everyone has also encountered the situation of shooting objects at close range. Does the camera always lose focus no matter how half the shutter is pressed? Or have you ever seen an image hovering between in-focus and out-of-focus, and you can't shoot it at all with the shutter? This is because the depth of field is too shallow, the camera can't find the focus and can't focus automatically. At this time, manual focusing can solve most problems.

The macro depth of field is too shallow, so the camera can't find the accurate focal plane through AF. Whether you shoot flowers, insects or other objects at a macro, manual focusing can make you focus on what you want accurately.

Third, there are obstacles in front of the main body.

If the subject composition is simple, then the camera is actually capable of accurate autofocus. However, if there are other objects between the camera lens and the subject, autofocus will often focus on the foreground object, not your subject.

For example, going to the zoo to take pictures, manual focusing is good. Animals are locked in iron cages, and you will find that many times you try to autofocus, the focus will fall on the cage net and you will never photograph the animals. At this time, if you focus manually, you can adjust the focus to small animals. In addition, some people use autofocus, but forget to turn off the focus sound. Inclined honey often scares away small animals and misses the opportunity to shoot.

Fourth, focus with live view.

If you shoot a still life with Live View, you can enlarge the image so that you can see whether the object you want to focus on is accurate. If the focus is not accurate, it will be very troublesome to test every time you use autofocus. It is best to use manual focusing and focus directly on the object you want.

For example, if you meet a star in the street, but there is a large group of people in front of you, if you use autofocus and then raise your camera to take pictures, there is a great chance that the focus of the image will fall on the people. Even if you just lift the camera by feeling, it is unknown whether you can clearly capture the desired subject. Therefore, using live view shooting, you can know exactly what kind of picture you will shoot, and then use manual focusing to focus the photo on the desired object.

At first, people may be a little flustered when using manual focusing, and feel that they can't find the ideal focus, but in fact, as long as they get used to it, manual focusing can solve many problems that will occur when autofocusing. When people usually have problems with autofocus and can't shoot, you can try to use manual focusing, which will greatly broaden the time you can press the shutter!

Five, use the old lens

This is a reason that is not a reason. Of course, you need to focus manually with a manual lens! The question is, AF camera is so good, why use MF lens? There are many reasons. For example, many legendary lenses, such as Leica and Zeiss, have no autofocus function, and many famous lenses in MF era cannot be replaced. The imaging of old lenses has a special taste. Second-hand old lenses are of high quality and quite cheap. .................................................................................................
