In this era when print media is being criticized, he is making a magazine by himself.
In the early summer three years ago, Mr. Kemo quit his job. This resignation was different from the past. He did not look for a new employer, and even planned to do something destined to not make money.
This matter has been brewing in his mind for many years, and he has never dared to act rashly.
In that year, the WeChat official account came to the forefront, and countless capitals entered the fight. Each large account stood proudly in everyone's field of vision, telling everyone that the era of fragmented reading was coming, and paper media He is getting old.
But it was also in the same year that Mr. Ke Mo resigned from his job and determined to create an independent paper magazine.
The name is "Just Enough".
On the small island of Xiamen, there are very few people who make independent magazines. The only ones that can persist to this day and are somewhat famous are "Yanba" and "Just Enough".
From deciding to do this to deciding on the name, it didn’t take as long as imagined. It seems that this is the point of view that Mr. Kemo has thought about for a long time but never found a chance to express.
In the past, as a designer, he liked to buy books and clothes. He would even pick up some old things and use them as decorations at home to fill the room.
But he soon discovered that he bought a lot of books, but there were always some that he never had time to read; he bought a lot of clothes, but a few were always piled in the corner of the closet.
“Life is actually very simple at the beginning, but later we make it very complicated. Sometimes it is because we are too greedy and keep adding various uncommon items to our originally comfortable home. Let yourself become confused. ”
Material excess sometimes comes from inner vanity.
After realizing this, he began to pursue a life state of "enough is enough" and tried to convey it to more people.
Li Wen, the editor-in-chief of "City Pictorial" said in "Ten Advice for Independent Magazines", "The ideal composition of your work team is 5 people. One editor-in-chief, one editor, one art designer, and one publisher , an advertising marketing. ”
In fact, the production process of a magazine is complicated and meticulous, but before this, Mr. Kemo was a complete layman in magazine publishing.
He once thought that three or four months would be the limit for a magazine, but when he actually started working on it, he discovered that sometimes it would take him half a year to produce a finished product that he was satisfied with.
But even so, he still insisted on making magazines alone.
He is the editor-in-chief of "Just Enough" and a reporter. He is also a photographer, designer, publisher... From the lines of text in a word document to a book that can be held in your hand paper magazine, he took care of all the work alone.
People often ask him why he doesn’t consider finding a team?
Mr. Ke Mo said with a smile, in order not to "quarrel" with others.
Probably because I am afraid that my life philosophy is not in line with others. Instead of spending time and energy on trying to reconcile it, it is better to do it quietly by myself. It may be slower, but it can make this independent magazine purer. .
There is still no standard definition of what an "independent magazine" is, but one thing is the common knowledge of almost every independent magazine person - an independent magazine should convey a concept or attitude.
Mr. Kemo feels that making a magazine is actually a dialogue with one’s own heart. Through "Just Enough", he conveys what he considers to be a simple lifestyle.
For this reason, he would type on the keyboard alone late at night, overturn the arranged layout countless times, and even stay in the printing factory, listening to the noisy machine, waiting for a while. The printing of this magazine is completed.
But this does not prevent him from insisting on doing it alone.
In fact, this process has long been not just for expressing opinions, but also for pursuing an ideal life.
In the name of an independent magazine, he often interviews people who share his views and loves life, and has long conversations with them.
Once he went to interview the independent folk musician Qiao Xiaodao. This homeless man who had just passed his thirties and only went to the second grade of junior high school is now the lead singer of a band, a designer, an exhibition planner, a creative director He has multiple identities such as a teacher, a craftsmaniac, a poet, a screen printing expert, and a magazine editor.
How can a person love life so much that he can live it so abundantly?
With this question in mind, Mr. Ke Mo finally contacted Qiao Xiaodao after being recommended by a friend. Sometimes the other party was busy with work and he was embarrassed to disturb him, so he could only wait for the other party to have some free time. Just meet him and chat with him.
It took him half a month to finally complete the interview.
In the past three years, Mr. Kemo has only produced five issues of "Just Enough".
Under the impact of e-commerce, this is not necessarily the best era for print media. But Mr. Ke Mo is lucky enough to be able to maintain the normal operation of "Just Enough" despite the huge waves of e-commerce.
Even so, he basically uses the revenue from each issue of the magazine to print the next issue of the magazine.
But he does this almost regardless of cost. Not only does he use expensive imported paper for printing, but every issue also comes with a book called "15 Things That Change Your Life" in addition to the magazine itself. A separate volume of "Basics".
There are not many pictures in this small volume. You can read his thoughts about life on every page. Between the lines, he expressed his understanding of life in a simple and beautiful way.
In the end, the feel of each page on his fingertips and the weight of each issue of the magazine are irreplaceable to him.
In fact, in addition to making magazines, Mr. Kemo also sang folk songs and worked as a radio host. But the radio station came on and off, and the singing of folk songs stopped again and again, but he only persisted in making magazines for three full years.
"Just enough is enough" is an independent magazine and an attitude towards life. In order to make us live more like ourselves, we treat the subtleties between people and objects with the mentality of just enough. We respect some independent creators and people who love life at home and abroad, and convey a simple and exquisite lifestyle.
