-Use 7D automatic exposure lock.

Beginners often confuse photometry with focusing. Although both metering and focusing are done with the shutter half pressed, their tasks are different. The task of photometry is accurate exposure. The so-called accurate exposure means that the photo can restore the scene light or realize the photographer's exposure hypothesis. The task of focusing is to ensure that the photos are clear, or to make the parts that the photographer wants clear clear clear. My experience is that in most cases, evaluation photometry can ensure the accurate exposure of photos, but when shooting in Gao Fancha or backlight, spot photometry or central focus photometry can better realize the photographer's intention. Whether spot metering or central focusing metering is used, if the metering point does not coincide with the focus, exposure locking is needed. We take 7D as an example to illustrate how to measure and focus correctly (the measuring point does not coincide with the focusing point):

1. First, aim the lens at the metering point and press the shutter half way to finish metering.

2. Press the exposure lock button (*) and release the shutter.

3. Quickly aim the lens at the focus point and press the shutter half to focus.

4. After focusing, press and hold the shutter to take pictures.

5. Press the shutter to end shooting.

The vertical width of the double banner defines different autofocus points.

When taking a close-up photo, we usually focus a little, preferably on the eyes of the model. If you focus on the center point, in most cases, you need to focus first, and then take a picture to compose, which is not only troublesome to operate, but also may be out of focus because of the movement of the camera. When shooting, you can choose the autofocus point according to the situation, but it is not realistic for capturing. For most portraits with conventional composition, the eyes are best divided in the golden section. It is a good method to define the autofocus point in the most common position of the eyes according to the banner and vertical width of the camera by using the function of "autofocus point and direction linkage" provided by 7D. According to my experience, according to the direction of the hand-held camera, defining the autofocus point is very practical for portrait shooting, which can not only facilitate the operation, but also improve the shooting success rate. However, the definition of "autofocus point linked with direction" is not fully explained in the 7D manual. I summarized the definition process and shared it with you.

1. Set the camera focus mode to single focus, and select Av or Tv as shooting mode.

2. Press the menu key and select C.Fn.III from the second item on the right side of the menu.

3. Press the setting key, and use the dial to select the item 12 "Auto Focus Point Link to Direction".

4. Press the setting key and use the dial to select the first "1". Choose a different autofocus point ". Press the menu key several times to end the setting.

5. Stand the camera upright with the handle up, and use the Q key to find the function of selecting the autofocus point. From 19 autofocus points, choose the focus point that you think appears most frequently in the eye position.

6. While pressing the zoom-in button on the upper right corner of the back of the camera, press the rightmost light button above the camera and beep to stop. The autofocus point has been successfully defined.

7. In the same way (steps 5 and 6, but the vertical direction of the camera is different), define the autofocus point in the downward direction of the handle.

8. Select the horizontal autofocus point.

The definition process is complete.

At this time, when you shoot, the camera will automatically focus at the focus you set according to the vertical width of the banner.

Thumb three autofocus

Focusing photometry with index finger half pressing shutter was once a necessary technique for photographers who used SLR autofocus. After 7 days, this technology is basically no longer needed. 7D provides a separate AF-ON button. When taking a photo, press AF-ON with your thumb to start autofocus and photometry. We can customize the key function of 7D and set the original "half-press shutter" function to "start metering". In this way, when shooting, press the AF-ON button with your thumb to start autofocus, release the button, and then

Compared with half shutter autofocus, thumb autofocus has the following advantages:

1. When re-composing after focusing, the index finger doesn't have to keep the shutter half pressed. As long as your thumb presses AF-ON to finish focusing, you can release your thumb and easily re-compose. After the composition is completed, just press the shutter directly.

2. When using a full-time manual lens, you can directly switch to manual focusing at any time without switching the AF-MF button on the lens, because when you press the shutter, the camera will no longer perform autofocus operation. However, if the AF mode of the lens is not set to MF mode with the semi-shutter autofocus mode that we often use, it will easily cause the camera to start autofocus when the shutter is pressed, resulting in out of focus.

3. When shooting scenery or night scenes with a tripod, as long as the focus is set properly, you don't have to worry about the out-of-focus problem caused by the camera starting "autofocus" every time the shutter is pressed.

4. When using artificial intelligence servo autofocus shooting, if the camera needs to autofocus the object that the photographer did not expect, please release the AF-ON button to stop autofocus.

The specific setting method is as follows:

1. Press the menu key and select "C.Fn.IV Operation/Other" in the second item from the left.

2. Select 1, and then press the Set key.

3. Select the first item "Half Press Shutter" and use the dial to change the default setting of "Photometry and autofocus Start" to "Start Photometry".

4. Press the setting key to confirm, and then press the menu to return.

Installation is complete.

Four skills of choosing autofocus point

7D has 19 focus points, which brings great convenience to shooting and composition. But when I choose the autofocus point according to my own needs in the shooting scene, it often takes a while to get it. Because the default mode of 7D is to press the "autofocus point selection" button first, the focus in the viewfinder turns red, and then you can use the dial or the "multi-function control" button to select the autofocus point. In fact, you can simplify the function of selecting the focus by customizing the function of the control key, directly press the multifunction control key to select the focus, and vertically press the multifunction control key to directly return to the focus or the registered focus.

The specific setting method is as follows:

1. Press the menu key and select "C.Fn.IV Operation/Other" in the second item from the left.

2. Select 1, and then press the Set key.

3. Select the last "Multifunction Control Button" and use the dial to change "Off" in the default setting to "Directly select the autofocus point".

4. Press the Info button to select "Switch to the central autofocus point" or "Switch to the registered autofocus point". The so-called registered autofocus point is the one that I mentioned in the second part of this series to register different autofocus points horizontally and vertically. I am used to going straight back to the central autofocus point.

5. Press the SET key to confirm, and then press the menu several times to return.

Installation is complete.
