Illegal trading of thrush involves the crime of buying and selling precious and endangered wild animals. On February 1 this year, the State Forestry and Grassland Administration and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs announced the release of a new version of the list of national key protected wild animals, which included more than ten kinds of captive ornamental birds with traditional breeding history in China, such as thrush, emu, lark, red-billed lovebird, embroidered bird and songbird, and was promoted to the second-class national key protected wild animals. This means that from February, 2002 1,1,illegal hunting, purchasing, transporting and selling thrush and other national key protected birds will be punished, which will constitute a crime of endangering precious and endangered wild animals.

Article 341 of the Criminal Law of People's Republic of China (PRC) illegally hunts and kills rare and endangered wild animals under special state protection, or illegally buys, transports or sells rare and endangered wild animals under special state protection and their products, and shall be sentenced to fixed-term imprisonment of not more than five years or criminal detention and shall also be fined; If the circumstances are serious, he shall be sentenced to fixed-term imprisonment of not less than five years but not more than ten years and shall also be fined; If the circumstances are especially serious, he shall be sentenced to fixed-term imprisonment of not less than 10 years and shall also be fined or confiscated. Whoever, in violation of hunting laws and regulations, hunts in a game reserve or during a game ban or uses prohibited tools and methods to destroy wildlife resources, if the circumstances are serious, shall be sentenced to fixed-term imprisonment of not more than three years, criminal detention, public surveillance or a fine.
