Introduction:

This is a documentary about underwater exploration. Colonel Gerst, an oceanographer, led Calico and a group of professionals to explore the wonders of the underwater world in the Mediterranean, the Red Sea, the Persian Gulf and the Indian Ocean. The improved underwater camera follows divers to work at depths that have never been reached at the bottom of the sea, recording exploration results and underwater life. They rely on all kinds of underwater tools to swim with all kinds of fish, explore the seabed landforms and coral reefs, and investigate the wreckage of shipwrecks. They have encountered seasonal storms at sea, bloody encounters with sharks and whales, and various marine wonders and interesting voyages.

Behind the scenes and brief comments:

Mahler, the director, had a desire to make a film when he was 0/4 years old. /kloc-at the age of 0/9, he entered the French Institute of Advanced Film Studies and studied film seriously for two years. During the graduate school, Mahler was not interested in film theory, but tried to practice how to express images. When he graduated, he refused to submit his thesis to the school, which showed that he attached importance to practice rather than theory.

When Mahler was still in the Film Academy, he got the opportunity to shoot some short documentaries similar to science and education films with Colonel Gerst, which provided convenience for Mahler who was eager to practice. Later, Colonel Gust prepared to shoot the underwater documentary Silent World, which used improved photographic equipment to make underwater photography more convenient. Mahler accompanied Colonel Gust in large-scale shooting in the Mediterranean Sea, the Red Sea, the Indian Ocean and other waters, and personally shot shark shots in the sea. When this rare film was released in April, 1956, the title indicated that it was co-produced by two people. The film was not only a box office success, but also won the highest prize in Cannes international film industry. At the age of 24, Mahler stood on the podium of Cannes Film Festival for the first time.

About photography

From 65438 to 0953, Jacques-Yves Gerst wanted to have a convenient underwater camera from his own work. He asked his company La Spiro technology to develop it. After many experiments, we encountered insurmountable optical problems. Later, this problem was solved with the help of Nikon-Nikon also got great benefits later. 1957, based on Gusteau's idea, Utes successfully manufactured the world's first 35mm waterproof camera. Gusteau named this little thing Calypso Phot and registered its trademark in France. 1953-1955, after three years of shooting, with this moment, Gusteau filmed the most important underwater film in his life. Le Monde du Silence, co-produced with French director louis malle, won the Palme d 'Or at Cannes Film Festival that year, and won the Oscar for Best Documentary Feature Film the following year.
