The Battle of Tinetes, the war between China and the former Soviet Union, and the border conflict.
In the battle, almost all our main positions were wiped out. Thirty-eight people died, including three journalists.
In the early morning of August 1969, eight members of the patrol team of Tielekedi Border Station patrolled as planned under the leadership of Pei, the deputy stationmaster. Among the patrol were Li Lianxiang, a photographer from Bayi Film Studio, and Wang Mingyuan, an interpreter from our unit. As a precautionary measure, on the night of 12, we set up a bunker in the patrol area where we are vulnerable to enemy attacks. In the morning, the Soviet army first drove out command vehicles, armored vehicles, trucks and dozens of infantry, crossed the border and entered the west side of an unknown highland (695.5) in China. When our patrol came here, the Soviet army suddenly shot and wounded our soldiers. Our position sent someone to carry the wounded soldier back, and the patrol immediately entered the unknown highland, joined the cover class and entered the combat post. Unknown heights fired two shots to protest, and the Soviet side continued to shoot despite our Chinese protests. We were forced to fight back in self-defense and repelled dozens of Soviet attacks under the cover of three armored vehicles. Then the Soviets attacked from the south and were repulsed again. Soon, the Soviet army launched a third attack. Armored vehicles detour from north to south to the rear of unknown highlands, and cover the infantry attack with heavy artillery fire. It was stubbornly resisted by the border guards of our country and was repelled many times. However, due to the large number of Soviet troops, more than 10 armored vehicles, more than 300 T-62 tanks, trucks and infantry were dispatched for siege. Because the patrol area is open, it is not good for me. On the bare top of the mountain, there is neither fortification bunker nor vegetation cover camouflage. We were exposed to the Soviet fire control, and the Soviet fire intensified and besieged our position. After an hour and fifteen minutes, dozens of us lost more than half and fell into a helpless situation. The empty Gobi desert turned into a bloody slaughterhouse. ......
